Thanks for ur input BD89.

I usually take my time in a new car to get aquainted with the driving characteristics so a test drive with a salesman doesn't really give me what I want.

It seems that u like the Miata more.

I actually got contradictory reports on "driving limits" of the 2 cars. I was told that the s2k will bite u bad if u make a mistake but the miata is more forgiving at the limit and hence easier to drive at the limit on the street(canyon runs).
I still like the S2K more, it provides more power while having that lightweight feel of the Miata. The S2K still feels heavier, if only by a little bit.

Yes, the Miata is a forgiving car. The one I drive doesn't even have traction control, and the handling is a joy - it communicates excellently, and lets you know when you're reaching the limits. The S2000's limits are higher so that when you do lose grip, it happens more rapidly than the Miata.

I have to say, the S2K would make a great daily driver - but it's more expensive to run, and you'd always be worrying more about it. A Miata will be cheaper to insure and run, and you'll be less worried.

The SI is currently my DD and I have got bored with it. I will still use it but the new car will be more than a weekend car.

Both are fun but distinctly different. The S has higher limits out of the box but certainly pricier. Since you've mentioned you're a Honda man I'd recommend the S
if cost is no object. The Miata is a screaming value and certainly has its virtues, but ask yourself what are you willing to spend. You won't go wrong with either.

I would easily vote Miata.

Perhaps a poll is needed so the we can properly tabulate the results?

S2k is more fun to drive. The Miata, and I'm speaking about an 08 because it's the only one I've driven, is just too lose and lacks high end power. But the Miata is more comfortable and I enjoy it at night with the top down more than the S2k.

I own an S2000, so I obviously could have afforded to buy a Miata. They're both great sports cars for the money; I think the S2000 is a bit more car, but it should be for its 20-25% higher MSRP. Drive both, figure out your budget, and be assured that you've got a classic, fun-to-drive sports car, whichever you decide to buy.
