i actually have an 03 miata, wishing it was an s2k, the handling is awesome and its an extremely fun car that can take turns like no other but it just lacks power.... Sure its fun but when you need to get going the power just isnt there.

I think the S2000 is incredibly high up on the value list. With the recurring factory rebates, you can easily get a brand new '07 in the 30K range, depending on your location. One of my favorite parts of the S2k is its relative lack of options--what you see is what you get. With the MX-5, as with most cars, you're tempted and teased to load on more and more options; indeed, a fully decked out MX-5 is marginally cheaper than an S2k, especially when the S2k can be compared to 40-50k roadsters.

I do love the MX-5, and if I ever have the money I'd love to get a second-hand one to track, but if you're looking for value in a DD, I firmly believe the S2k is the way to go. Plus, it feels better to think fondly of a Miata from the vantage point of an S2k, than the other way around

Before I bought my S, I considered the Miata. I'm still undecided if it is fair to compare it to the S2000. Optioned similar to the S (lsd/leather/HID/"sport" susp.) the msrp of $28900 comes within a few g

[I] am getting conflicting reports on which is more fun.
This really boils down to personal preference.

Furthermore, being an S2000 board, I would imagine a majority of the comments are going to be in favor of the S2000 (hopefully it won't result in some of the immature and cliche comments generally stated about the Miata, as they are great cars).

Both are fantastic sports cars. Selecting one comes down to how you plan to use it and what YOU interpret as being fun.

Test drive them both.

I actually got contradictory reports on "driving limits" of the 2 cars. I was told that the s2k will bite u bad if u make a mistake but the miata is more forgiving at the limit and hence easier to drive at the limit on the street(canyon runs).
I do not have a lot of time with a Miata, so my comment is not from personal experience, but...

It's my understanding that the limits of the S2000 are higher, but is less forgiving when a mistake is made at the limit.

One of the reasons why the Miata is so popular with sports car enthusiasts is because it allows one to drive at or near the limit at modest speeds and it communicates well at or near the limit - often a major component of the "fun factor."

Which car do you "like" more?
How often will you be driving the car "to its limits"? 99% of the time, you will be driving, either for the pure enjoyment (which does not necessarily mean oversteering around a corner) or commuting. This where you ought to make your decision.

To be honest, I really love both cars. I actually think the Miata has more bang for buck as far as fun factor goes versus the S2K. The S2K is like a Miata on steroids and you pay the extra premium for it. I've love to get an older Miata backup beater car (maybe I will) but I don't know....having two convertible roadsters....I should get a sedan maybe.
