Mr. Flintstone has been creditted with having the first mid-engine vehicle in history. Plus, it is a true mid-engine because his feet are niether in front of or behind the cockpit.

Actually when he really needs to step on it, his passengers help out by pedaling as well! Kinda like using only some of the cylinders at times on new Mercs.

Barney's car is a lot more sleek. Stone age S2000?

Actually, "FM" means "Front Midship" and no, 350Z is NOT mid engined.

I guess the question is if the definition is ONLY "the engine is between the passenger cab and the rear wheels" or "the engine is between the wheels". I say that any time the mass of the engine is between the wheels, the car is Mid-Engined. It does not matter where the people sit, it's where the engine sits.

Guys cmon, open up your hoods. If you see an enigne, you are looking at a front-engine car.

The true definition of a mid engined car is that the engine is completely contained in the wheelbase of the car.

The S2000 is a true mid-engined car.

The 350Z is damn close, but they didn't quite get it far back enough to be considered true mid-engined, but it is close from what I hear.

The RX8 is also a true mid-engined car.

The new Ferrari 612 and Masserati Quattroporte are also considered to be mid-engined cars. Not bad, getting an entire V12 behind the front axle and ahead of the passenger compartment.

Call me crazy. But for a car to be MID engine the engine most be in the MIDDLE of the car. Being behind the front axle by an inch or two does NOT qualify it as a mid-enigine car.

So, does a car that has an engine a few inches in front of the rear axle count?
