I find these kinds of questions amusing. Torque compared to what? It's like asking why a Ferrari doesn't get better gas mileage. Let's see, I just bought a Ferrari and it gets nothing like the gas mileage I got with my Civic. Why doesn't Ferrari make an engine that gets better gas mileage?

The answer is that gas mileage is not an important priority for Ferrari, just as high torque, big power, gas guzzling engines are not a priority for Honda. Honda's corporate values are in a different place than GM's, thank the Lord! Honda strives to build fuel efficient, environmentally friendly, high revving engines that put out as much power as those commitments and engineering limitations permit. Thus we have the S2000 engine, engine of the year for two years running and a power-to-displacement ratio among the best in the business.

Frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way. If I wanted a Chevy I would have bought a Chevy.

Nastinupe, I don't understand people like you. Why didn't you take a thorough test drive before you bought the s2k did you check the torque figures before you bought? I have broken down the choices of cars I am interested in down to three and I will research and thoroughly test drive all of them before I lay down my hard earned money so that I will be sure I am happy with my purchase. I have already test drove 2 of them and just have the s2k left which has been hard to find a used one to test drive in my area. I'm not trying to put you down but I hope you don't expect too many people to agree with your thread. Rob

The S2000 is Awesome. I got a thumbs up from a convertible ferrari at the jersey shore this weekend. On my ride home I saw another s2000... lic. plate was michegan "1bads2k" ...It was fun to rev and take turns blowing past each other. Cute girl driving to!
The vette is huge compared to the s2000. So is the engine. Mod out your s2000 .....10 grand worth and you'll have the same power and price of a vette coupe. I was offered a test drive by five different dealers. Go get your vette. By the way ..........bmw only uses inline sixes......why v-6's throw off the balance because
two pistons up on one side and only one up on the other.......If they use a v-6 it better be inline!

Wow, I don't know how many threads I have to read this in. I own an S2000 and a couple of years ago had limited use (weekends and a couple of weeks) of having a brand new 911. The 911 had alot of torque, but since I don't go to the track and don't see the point to jack rabbit at every light, it really didn't matter that much.

I won't say that I never shoot from a stop, but not enough to regret having the S2000. It has enough power for what I want to do.

So, for those that want more torque, I think that you ought to look for a car that has it. It may not handle as well or the mileage may suck, but if this is what you want then you should go for it and be happy with your decision.

There is no perfect car.

Who I am:

www.pbs1914.org and the chapter I represent.... www.iotanusigma.com/

BTW,

About the V6 thing in the S2000, just take a brief study of the "S" lineage....the car is very much in line of what it was designed to be.
