S2000 or other?? Opinions..
I have to be honest in this post... I bought my S2000 in Dec '01. I traded in a fully loaded '00 Celica GTS for the s2000. The only reason I was able to get the s2000 is because now I have a garage to park it in and my girlfriend has a truck. If I was single and didn't have a more 'practical' car I would have kept my GTS. IMO - I think alot of people on this board are doggin' the GTS for no reason at all. Everybody is sayin to test drive them both, which is a great idea. But naturally if you are somewhat of a car enthusiast and really understand the differences... one is a sports car the other a sports 'coupe' then I don't know how a test drive can give practical measures. The GTS has an inline 4 with VVTL-i. This is Toyota's version of VTEC. Right about 6500 RPM the cams lift and you get a 'semi' turbo feeling from the engine, just like VTEC. The car also redlines at 7800... granted its not as lofty as the S2k but still higher than most other cars. The GTS likes to be driven in high RPM's just like the S2k. The GTS actually handled really well. If you read the GTS reports they like the handling of the car better than the engine performance. I put 26,000 miles on the car in 1.5 yrs. I traveled back and forth from CA to NM several times. This is a very well rounded car and probably the second best looking car... ok so I am slightly s2k biased!!
So I think a first decision needs to be prior to test driving... which is going to be more practical for you?
If you do go for the GTS, definitely spring for the Action Package if you like ground effects. This is the TRD package. If you bought it from TRD direct... it would cost you $2500 bucks... but as an option... $1500!!! That is one of my regrets of getting the first model year of the celica GTS!
In closing... I actually love both cars. I am constantly spotting GTS's(which yes, they are more common) and telling myself I used to have one... but then when I spot a fellow S2k'er... I am stoked again! Either choice will be an awesome one!
(OK... devil's advocate time.... have you checked out the RSX yet???
)
Sorry for my rant... I am holding to my new year's resolution... QUIT SMOKING!!! 84 hours ago!!!

if u need space then get the celica... u can even fit a mountain bike in the trunk with rear seats folded down.
i dont really think u can take many stuff with u when u are with s2k.... I dont even know where to keep my CDs in S2k but who cares about music in vtec land ?!
VVTL-i kicks in right at 6000RPM and u dont really have to up shift til 8300rpm....

If Honda had copied Mclaren with the 3 person set up and side panniers for luggage that would be perfect.
S2000 is great if you are just a couple, but if you have kids - somebody always gets to take the bus.
My solution is S2000 + practical 2nd car with removable seats etc for bikes, so you don't compromise sporting over comfort.

One of the big advantages of the S2000 is that at the end of social gatherings, reunions etc. we escape from taking the hopeless drunks home. We can honestly and cheerfully say, "Sorry, we've only got a 2 seater, can't help I'm afraid"
