I have wanted an S2K for the last two years and finally have some motivation to get one (my '67 Triumph Spitfire is going in for an engine rebuild). Unfortunately every dealership I have talked to out here in San Diego has an arbitrary markup of >$5K on the MSRP. I have seen some people talk about getting their cars at MSRP. Does anyone know of places like this in San Diego (I just moved out here from MI) or anywhere. Some have said to talk to the "Customer Satisfaction" department of a dealership and they will work harder at getting an MSRP quote. Does anyone know if there is truth to this?

I'm not sure about San Diego, but in other areas you can obtain the S 2000 for MSRP... in many cases under. Shop around, I'm sure you'll find a dealer willing to sell it for MSRP. I'm sure they're still making decent money on it.

 

I bought mine for just under MSRP in Dec. '01 in Orange County!
The sticker had a $5000 mark up. Don't let that discourage you.

Do your research, go to as many dealers as you can and stick
to your guns on the price. I left the dealership and it took them
2 days of calling me back to get the price I wanted.
The bottom line is I paid what I wanted.

Of course if you have a trade and financing that clouds the
picture quite a bit and a mark-up can be hidden in those.

i went to the dealer the other day to express my interest and they were selling for 2000 over,
just tell them that you will buy it in another dealer if they don't sell for msrp. I did that and they
quickly offered it to me for msrp, even then I told them that another time, lol. Don't have the money
yet, but sooonnnnnnnnnn

 

You're not limited to the dealers in your area. Check some out-of-state dealers. Remember, the cost of shipping an S2000 cross-country is something lile $800+ - well worth it if the markups in your area are $5K.
