I'm always very weary of Prius drivers on the road. I see them in accidents constantly. They never use turn signals (or leave them on when they do), they drop anchor in the passing lane, they honk or gesture very quickly (2 times in my life ive been victim of excessive road rage... both times by old white men in Priuses in a parking garage because they were afraid i would back up into them as they gave me no room to get out of the spot), they are typically all battered up from ramming into cars while parallel parking, their drivers are generally speaking inept etc etc etc.... The only benefit to you getting a Prius is that you are probably likely to be a better Prius driver than most, coming from an s2000. Maybe you can help them make a better name for themselves.

My friend was at first a STAUNCH nonbeliever when I explained to her that Prius drivers are downright dangerous. Over the past year she has started paying attention, and is now keen to their ability to cause accidents, drift out of lanes, disobey traffic signals, fail to yield, forget turn signals exist, and tie their own shoes. Please, I beg of you, don't join this legion of tragic specimens. I know that Prius drivers are irrelevant here since you are simply buying for yourself, and perhaps I'm selfishly going on a tangential rant, but still... I cringe at the thought. Just buy an Insight or Jetta TDI or even a Kia Soul at least, anything but that deadly little hybrid.
This can be said about drivers for any particular car. You seem to have had more run ins than most, but bad drivers are bad drivers regardless of the car. I can say all of that about SUV drivers. They are horrible here where I live, thinking that the bigger size means they get more right of way on the road.

As a side Prius driver (my wife has a Prius for her business and it doubles as our 'family' car since the other two cars we have are 2 seater verts), I find the Prius to be extremely safe, easy to drive and worth every penny we spent on it. I have had no accidents in my driving life, and my wife and I have been ticket free for over 10 years, incluidng having a Prius for the last 3.

I have an Acura TL Type S as a DD and I plan on a Prius as my next DD with the S remaining as the track toy and nice day driver.
Keep the S and go with a Prius for the bulk of the driving to get the best of both worlds.

But a Prius is not a bad car to have for mpg and $$ purposes. I love the TLS for the fun sport sedan, but frankly the prius will get the kids around and will save a ton in the process. The S works for my speed needs.

Go for it OP..

I think we are talking to ourselves here guys.
Has anyone noticed the T.S. has not replied for over two months? He is probably posting on a Prius forum for more support so he can feel better about his horrendous, extremely thoughtless consideration of trading his S for a soul munching transportation device.
He didn't get much here.

Or maybe it was a troll thread and we all fell for it.

Yes I agree; I definitely had a bit of tunnel vision and was posting a true (but only half-serious ) rant of many Prius drivers in the Wash DC area. It is little coincidence that I just heard on the news here that this area has the worst drivers in the country, measured by how likely they are to get in a collision. Since this area (especially montgomery county) is affluent and eco-conscious, the Prius is a common weapon on the roadway.

But also, since you also own an s2000, it doesn't surprise me that you have a great driving record with the Prius and don't need to back into a car 5 times in order to parallel park. Most, but not all, people who have the sense to purchase an s2000 are likely to take driving very seriously.

And yes, I think location determines which cars the unfortunate drivers prefer to purchase. I think the SUVs can be a very big problem in lots of areas. I had meant to state in my post that I was not talking about all Prius drivers, just the majority I see on the roadway. They honestly scare the hell out of me.

I have both. The S2000 has a Comptech SC and the Prius is a 2nd generation. I love them both as each is good for a particular set of missions.
I also have both a 2nd gen Prius and my AP2 S2K. I love both of them as well, the Prius is extremely useful and has given me no trouble for the last ~7 years. The S2k is way more fun, obviously, but I've really enjoyed owning both cars.
You're luckier than I've been. The Prius needed a new motor/generator, aka transmission. That cost over $5,000. And now it needs a water pump. Its a testament to the S2000 that even with a supercharger and 10psi pulley its had fewer issues than the Prius. Still, in its own way the Prius is a high performance car and as an engineer I can appreciate that.
