get a golf TDI, more fun to drive, available with a manual, 40+ MPG, diesel torque (you can even chip them)...prius is just a soul sucking appliance.

Let's say your S is worth 20k on trade in on a 30k prius. That puts you 10k in the hole before you even leave the dealership. If you roughly double your fuel economy from 25 to 50 mpg you are still only saving at most a couple thousand a year, so either your savings are drained from the initial purchase or you just swapped your fuel costs for a higher monthly payment. If you're getting a used prius thats roughly the same cost you lose out on the reliability and maint. Cost. If it were me I'd buy the 5k civic and keep both.

I just had a trusted Honda mechanic tell me how he loves power and feel of the engine and "the modified Civic SI manual tranny" in the new CR-Z. And it gets great gas mileage. Not much space, though.

Don't do it - my sister has a Prius I drive occasionally while she's on vacation - if I'm NOT driving by myself, it's fine, but it's so boring and bland I want to pull my hair out. Unless you WANT that experience and REALLY want to save gas, I would avoid it.

I did test drive a CT200h a couple times, and if I HAD to have a hybrid that's what I would get (actually I had a deposit down for one before I got the S).

I have both. The S2000 has a Comptech SC and the Prius is a 2nd generation. I love them both as each is good for a particular set of missions.

I have a 04 S2k and a 98 diesel Jetta (hence my screen name).

The diesel jetta is dead-nuts reliable and averages between 45-50 mpg. Hybrids are overrated; go with a diesel.
