S2000 Roof Liners
Thanks guys!!! Neuronbob, i know you ain't kidding, but i also know i have no idea until sept ... lol I hope to be able to keep this up to help pay for living expensive during school. I'll definitely have to cut down on production time to make that happen.
I went by the seamstress to talk about the use of canvas. The way it has to be done will eliminate most of the attachment points i used in the vinyl design, so i need to figure out how to replace them in the canvas design. I always intended to make liners out of fleece. I actually have black fleece already, but it's available in every color imaginable. Due to rigidity issues, i'm going to have to change the design of the large liner to use fleece tho. I'll get into that after i have the canvas one prepared. My only real concern with both canvas and fleece is insulating them. I use pockets to secure the insulation in the vinyl design. Those pocket will be very difficult to reproduce with canvas and fleece...................... huh........................................ i think i just figured it out........ lol sorry. i type out loud (so to speak).

Hey, i have been waiting for someone to ask that question. The insulation on the smaller version butts up right to the edge, so there is only a 4" difference between the small and large. (Due to clearance issues, the insulation doesn't reach the edge of the large liner) As for fitment, the small liner butts up to the mechanics on either side. You can see it pretty well in the pic on the first post. I finished up the first one ready to sell. I took a few pics of the insulation:

I tried to install the smaller liner into an Ap2 today. It was actually too big. My top is an EZ-on, and the OEM tops allow the 3rd support to come forward further than mine. I checked for structural differences when i started this, but i thought the positioning of the 3rd bar would be determined by the mechanics and not the top... damn it.
Can some of a guys measure the distance between the rubber trim on the first support and the 3rd support? I would really appreciate it. Of the S2000's with rear glass windows, are all of the OEM frames/tops exactly alike?
I'm going to have to adjust the design of both liners, but it seems like relatively simple fixes. I don't think it will delay me too long. I'm a little peeved about this at the moment
, so i probably won't work on it today. But i will be making another and test fitting it on an OEM top Wed.

Guys, i need some help with the question above. I started adjusting the design this morning, but i need to know if that measurement is the same across all model years to do anything definite!
Here's a few pics of the smaller version installed. This liner was embroidered with the nickname of a friend's S. The blemishes in the first pic are just dust etc. from the top. I got the measurements i needed tonight, so i will be adjusting the patterns and creating the canvas liner tomorrow and Friday. I'm doing my best to get this going ASAP.

Mine does a great job of insulating summer/winter
And as you say, lots of colors available

I have an F1 Barbie fleece liner in my car... It really livens up the interior.
Yeah, you're right- i don't think i would insulate the fleece liner. It couldn't support insulation anyway. That canvas is thick and stiff tho- MUCH stiffer than the vinyl. I'm thinking it will need insulation to have a significant affect on wind noise due to the stiffness.

I'm trying to track down a vinyl cloth similar to the material our tops are made out of. It's probably A LOT cheaper, definitely flexible enough to allow the top to drop, and more fade-resistant than canvas. Would that work for you, or would you prefer the canvas? I can do both. The canvas is just more luxurious than the vinyl cloth.

I agree about the vinyl looking a little less ritzy, but if the fit is more critical then go with the vinyl. The German foam backed material was not all that impressive. When the top is up only I will see it and when its down very little of it is showing.
I am more interested in durability & some temp/sound protection.
Using roof vinyl (thickness) might be a little too stiff IMO but not sure. Two layers to lift up and down might be hard on the roof drive system, especially at the end of the travel. If you can't find grey then black vinyl is OK with me too.
Plus good fabric isn't cheap. $30-50/yard, and you might need 2 yards. However I would be willing to pay the premium for a fabric upgrade. It would be much longer lasting and still less $$ than $500+ plus shipping for the German unit. My wife who sews suggested a microfiber it feels very luxo but not sure how that would stand up to outside exposure with the roof down (tons of colors I suspect).
The fact that Honda left the raw mechanicals exposed always made me wonder why they didn't finish the roof. Maybe the true british "roadster" feel? Anyway the car interior looks somehow unfinished without it and a liner really does help with the heat radiating down if its up in summer.
