I already chimed in my opinion on a car for the owner. I just want to reitereate since a lot of FD owners/former owners are coming out of the closet as well.

Basically, if you haven't dealt with an FD...AS A DAILY DRIVER...stfu. I LOVED my FD. As an ownship experience it's another story. Point is, my guy has 15K to spend and want's relialbe advice and if you're jsut pullng out a car out of your ass without an A/B experience...seriously..stfu. It's nont going to help if he decides to go Fd and lo and behold the shit blows. If you want to stand by your word and take care of him if such things INEVITABLTY happens...fine...otherwise...stfu.

thats why you lower the compression when you go turbo
Obviously you could lower compression on the S2k but that doesn't change the fact that thats its an all aluminum block which isn't ideal for turbo. You could selve the block but its going to pricey to build a reliable set-up w/ turbo for any honda engine and if all he has to spend or wants to spend is 15k I wouldn't even go down that road.

Most of the issues with the FD are cooling related. Overheat=junk.
If you kind find a low mileage one and do the required upgrades
you should be fine. Only keep it for a year though, then sell it so it doesnt blow up on you Consider it a year long lease to get it out of your system. Thats what I did.
If you want a fun sports car that will fit you budget and that will be reliable find a higher mileage s2k.

Please remove the stick in your ass before posting again. No need for that.

I owned a FD right before I bought the s2000 and for the most part, most of the information in this thread is right.

Another option might be a '93 - '95 MR2 Turbo...if you like hp potential + handling.

In 1993, I test drove both a new MR2 and a new RX-7....chose the MR2 mainly because it had similar performance (a few tenths more on the 0-60, plus one less turbocharger) for about $4,000 less.

277,000 miles later I still have the mainly-stock MR2 and still going strong as my DD. Sure, with that many miles a lot of parts could use replacing, but so far only the alternator has gone kaput on me. Wonder how many miles I'd have on the RX-7 right now?

No knock on the RX-7, of course--great car--had its 20A weak sister (an '84) for many years. But if you're gonna buy an older car that has very tunable performance with a lot of miles and don't want to work on it every weekend...

Wow. I can't believe that this post has gone as far as it has. I have pretty much nixed the RX7. Ive got it between the S2000 and a newer BMW 3 series. Either way I greatly appreciate the comments. Oh yea...just to clear things up about the budget. I have 12K cash, I will finance the rest. I'm just looking for the best deal possible.

^ where are you? we're looking for an FD project.

see.. $15K to me.. gets you a cherry FD + 1 motor rebuild... considering the number of ppl i know who can properly rebuild rotaries, i'd definitely take the FD. as far as rotary reliability.. my FC3S had 240k mi on it before the water seals went south. i'd like to see a) an ap1 w/ 240k mi on it, b) a "daily driven" F20C putting down 440rwhp...

Daily→ Honda (Civic), Fun(er) → FD3S.
Daily driven F22C1 putting down 440+ whp (on 91 octane pump gas) has been done. If you want the dyno charts, let me know.

I love FD's. I would love to have a high horsepower rotary. Ultimately, I think I would wind up swapping a LS1 into a nice FD or FC with a blown motor though.
