S2000 Safety
I am in the process of buying a new car hopefully the s2000, my dream car. However, my 'rents dont want me to get it b/c they feel that is is not safe considering its small size and that its a convertible. I argued that a convertible is just as safe as any normal coupe. Is this true or is a convertible more unsafe. If not my would the car be considered safe? Thanks for everything

I'm not sure it's so safe. I was rear-ended at a stop light and I suffered a mild concussion as a result. I can't know for sure how fast the car that hit me was
going but speed limit was 45 and I did hear breaks (I think.) The damage was
rather slight , about 3K, so her speed could not have been that great.
My seat was all the way back with the seat back up against the roll bars. As a
result when my head hit the head rest the seat had no give.
Two months later I still have dizzy spells (four today.)
I feel the car should have done a better job protecting me from such a low
speed accident.

Safety is a relative term. I know the S can more quickly maneuver an accident about to happen. It has the acceleration when needed as well as the brakes. However, if your hit by an SUV, good luck. The majority of cars out there are bigger than the S and would do more damage to it than what the S could do back. Also, it being a convertible can't be better than a conventional roof over your head.

In my opinion the s2000 is very safe providing you don't roll or get hit side on by a significantly larger vehicle.
I wasted my old black s2000 by hitting a building front on at high speed and walked away with a cracked sternum. I know that if I had had the same acciden in my previous car a camry I would probably be wearing the engine. The s2000 has a huge crumple zone in the front making it very good in frontal collisions. Furthermore it has very effective brakes and excellent maneuverability increasing our chances of avoiding obstacles.
Passive safety 7/10.
Active safety 9/10.

Look no car is 100% safe... if you buy a SUV you can roll over... if you buy a compact car you can still get hurt.. point is no car is safe especially driving in Miami (like us other S2K owners know all too well). Listen if you like the car and you feel rather comfortable and safe than I say it's ok... make sure you read up on safety tests on this car and see how the 'frame' work is when in an accident... then again you can stick to a Toyota Carolla
