Coming home from work, some guy apparently blew out his rear drivers side tire on his bronco II, and decided to attempt to change it on the left side of a 4 way highway smack against the big concrete barrier thing with his two right tires hanging in the fast lane by 6". DUH!

Anyway... a quick call to the cops (took them 20+ minutes to finally show up), and i blocked his bronco with my stook back about 50 yards (figured out trajectory first).

His jack didn't work for crap and his spare was stuck somehow, so we took my spare and it worked.

5 lugs and done... now if that bastard doesn't return it, i will be pissed!

What a good Samaritan! Are you sure it wasn't that early prototype for our car, a Bronco sIIk?

I'm glad it worked out safely for you both.

and to prove that the world is still filled with
some semi-normal/appreciative people, the bronco
owner called then returned my spare by 3:00pm today!

(Deep breath...exhale...) It's great to see that there's still a little humanity left in the world. Thanks for giving your fellow S2K drivers a good name by proxy.

Way to go, Scot!

Thanks guys. I am amazed at how unwilling local folks
are to help others. I have stopped, given rides, changed
tires, blocked traffic for sooo many people...

I usually ask "how long have you been here"? sometimes
people will have sat with their hazard lights on for 10-20
mintues with not even one person stopping.......

I did give some lady a ride with her 5 year old son in my
convertible bug... I think she was a little afraid of me.
Musta been my brass knuckles. (joke).

anyway.... it took me about 10 minutes in traffic to get
back to this guy in the bronco, and in the meantime, no
one had stopped or anything. Too busy talking on the cell
phone to notice.?

Scot, a few years ago a co-worker of mine stopped to help a lady that was trying to jack her car up in the dark on the side of the freeway. When he offered help two guys came up from behind and started beating him with 2 x 4's. They stole his van and left him for dead. After he was found the next day he spent several days in the ICU and a couple of weeks in the hospital. His jaw was wired for 8 or 9 weeks. As much as I hate it since this time I usually dial 911 and request help for the motorist instead of stopping.

Scot, I think it's a wonderful thing when people put aside the callousness that stories like the above normally inspire in us all. Abviously it would be prudent to call 911 to alert the authorities when something happens, but all too often we make that an excuse not to get involved and not to inconvenience ourselves on behalf of others.

If more people were willing to be inconvenienced, the world would be a warmer, friendlier and more loving place. I for one applaud your willingness to sacrifice your time. But again, at least let someone know what you're doing to protect yourself from potential harm. It'd be nice to be able to say when you pull up, "I've called the police, but is there anything else I can do to help?"

OUCH...CG you are full of horrible stories (i still remember the one about a tractor....and not the VD tractor story from Senfield).

Anyway... I had already called the cops and told them where exactly these guys were. so at least if they did decide to go nuts, the cop could find me in a 1/2 hour when he finally showed up.

Most of my driving is during rush hour, so it is at least in front of lots of people.
