An inane and purile response to a sensible argument. Unless you can address the point above (without the need for specific numbers or high school language) then you're off-topic.
Purile????? As you kindly pointed out, I'm not familiar with the english language. You'll need to use high school words so that I can understand.

It's protectionism. I mean, without tariffs on imports countries like the UK and Australia wouldn't have a car industry. And nor would the US for that matter. In fact the US has some of the highest standards of protectionism in the world. If you didn't most of your primary industry would collapse. We'd be supplying all the coal, steel, wool, wheat etc and would probably be a superpower by now.
Your just wrong! Plain and simple.

And you're not really doing much to educate poor old me.

If I'm so wrong, why don't you point out how and where and see if unlike Ken you can resist using base language in your argument.

If it isn't protectionism that makes the S so expensive is Aus then what is it?

Japan (regular type, fabric seats, no options):

JPY 3,950,000 = USD 38,000

minus dealer discount (about 5%)

plus insurance, yearly taxes

I can tell you from experience that the traffic is horrendous. I grew up in Ireland, and left in 1990, before the economic boom. Up until '95 or so, I could still drive flat out on many roads in the North Dublin area, and never did less than 70mph on most of the back roads. After the recent years of record car sales, the traffic has increased to the point that I would rather drive in New Jersey than Ireland, and that's saying something.
I was over there for two weeks earlier this year, and even in some decidedly non-tourist areas (Cavan), the traffic was heavy and slow. I actually switched the display on the car (Toyota Yaris) from mph to kph just so I felt like I was going faster.

Also, no matter what the standard of living may be, I could never go back to that weather
