S2000 tows like a champ!
I tried to ignore the old fart reference.
I'm only 33 years old.
I wanted to go to Sneaky Pete's, but that would have been way too far to go with the boat behind the S2000. The boat is stored on the east side of Lavon, which is probably at least 40 miles from Sneaky Pete's.
It took me a while to figure out Liquidsation's comment, but that isn't an issue at this lake. Besides, I would definitely see a 40 ft cruiser LONG before it caused any effect.

The tongue weight of the trailer with the boat on it is probably around 100 lbs. It may be even less than that, since I can pick it up without too much effort. The fastest I have gone with it is about 30 MPH, since the road from my storage unit to the ramp is a 1 mile long 2 lane farm and market road.

it's probably closer to 40lbs, if that. (try to imagine picking up one of those 45lb weight plates at the gym, then imagine picking up the end of the trailer... I'm sure the end of the trailer is much lighter)

I recommend finding a "beater" $2,000 truck, fast. I can see a 40 foot cabin cruiser coming by plowing a three foot roller about the same time you are loading your boat. Guess what happens next? You will have a car full of lake water!
Besides, I don't expect any 40 foot cruisers to be plowing 3 foot rollers anywhere near that close to shore, and the energy from those waves would dissipate by the time they reached the ramp into little more than 4-inch ripples in the water.
I don't disagree with your recommendation for getting a beater truck, but I'm sure gernby has his reasons for not acquiring one of those.

I was definitely in 3rd or 4th. It doesn't take much power at all to maintain a cruising speed.
The tongue weight is a lot more than 40 lbs. It wasn't that easy to pick up. The reason why it doesn't look like that much is because my coilovers have ~450 lbs / inch rear springs.

Ha ha! Nice! I thought about buying a truck to pull my camper, but then I thought, WHY? Just wait till I get the hitch on and get stopped at a light next to that guy in the Hemi pulling a Hemi.
Some people think the S is a $200k Ferrari or something...

Let me then just say that MOST everyone that tows a 3000lb boat with an S2000 is a dumb-ass.
After 5 times pulling the car out, take to a collision center and have them check the frame for straightness.

i love my car to death, but whats the big deal if he wants to pull a boat, if he can afford a s2000 and he can afford a boat, im sure a clutch new clutch isn't a big deal, and besides eventully its gonna go anyways with all the auto-x
have fun

What is the tongue weight of your trailer? What is the fastest speed you have driven while towing the boat?
