S2000 tows like a champ!
heh, read you newest post, I edited my message. If you only tow it 1 mile and always launch it on that shallow a slope then I think it would be ok.
My initial reaction was if you had to launch it into a lake, you could forget it. The slopes on lake boat launches don't allow for ground clearance of a S2K.
If you didn't install the hitch, you should write a story of the reaction of the personthat did it for you

[QUOTE=gernby,Sep 12 2004, 12:47 AM] First off ... let me just say that most everyone that posted in the beginning of this thread is a dumb ass.
I'm not sure what you mean about launching it into a lake. I did launch it into the lake.
I just emailed the video to the first person who offered (Thanks Yogi!). Hopefully it will be available soon.
Notes about the video:
1. It was about 11 PM, so it is DARK. The boat is on the same ramp as in the pictures, but the car and trailer wound up a little crooked (since it was so friggin' dark). Since the car and trailer weren't quite straight, the rear tires spun a bit in the slime as the car and trailer lined themselves up.
2. The videographer is just some old, weird guy that was fishing at the ramp when I was pulling out. I had to listen to about 30 minutes of UFO stories after he shot the video for me.
3. I really wish that I would have recorded my first 2 boat extractions that were earlier in the day, but nobody was around to shoot it and I didn't think of setting the camera on the ground.

Let me then just say that MOST everyone that tows a 3000lb boat with an S2000 is a dumb-ass.
After 5 times pulling the car out, take to a collision center and have them check the frame for straightness.

Alright, Professor, but would you please explain to us where the frame twisting forces are coming from?If you look through the original thread that I posted above, you can see how the hitch mounts to the car. These mounts are definitely going to fail long before the frame. Also, it is important to note that there are very little forces acting in front of the rear wheels when towing with a rear wheel drive car (or truck).
Congrats, Gernby...looks like it worked fine! It took some real balls to take all the crap you did from the contributors to this forum and do the deed anyway. I know you had some reasons unique to your situation that prompted you to improvise. It's your car, no innocent bystanders will be harmed, our insurance rates won't rise as a result, and you want to do it. Best wishes!
The exhaust pipes were partially submerged, but not enough to bubble. Even if they were completely submerged, it wouldn't have stalled the engine. The exhaust did sound funny for a little while since some water got into the mufflers. However, it didn't take long for the water to evaporate on the way home.

Hehe! gernby's an old fart!
Sorry, I have nothing useful to contribute to this thread, but that cracked me up.
By the way, since you obviously had the boat in the water, why didn't you come out to Sneaky Pete's yesterday? Is the boat on a different lake?
I recommend finding a "beater" $2,000 truck, fast. I can see a 40 foot cabin cruiser coming by plowing a three foot roller about the same time you are loading your boat. Guess what happens next? You will have a car full of lake water!
