Ah! Yes, I see what you mean. Yeah, the insurance cost is significantly higher than what I pay. Gas is more expensive as well - I get better mileage than they estimate I think. I think their tire-replacement cost is way too low, though.

I think the maintenance cost is a little high, but the actual tire replacement and insurance costs make up for that.

I know it is MUCH higher than my own operating costs; I can almost add my mods in to the cost of operation and still come up with a lower cost per mile. However, I bought used, so depreciation is lower, I bought for cash, so there is no financing, and we're self-insured, so we don't have the insurance expense. I wish I really was saving as much as their numbers indicate; I think cost of operation depends to some extent on where one lives.

Unfortunately, that's probably not excessively high.

I added up my annual car payments, annual insurance costs, fuel costs (assuming $3/gal which is higher than what I paid last year but will be lower than what I'll pay this year. ), added $500/yr for maintenance (?) and mulitplied all that by 5 years. I came out to just over $47k.

These are rough numbers and I'm probably being very conservative all things considered.

Ouch! I really need to work on getting the thing paid off!

Steve R.

The numbers are inaccurate. Should be lower.

Everything is pretty accurate other than repairs/maintenance.

I've spent less than $500 US so far on maintenance... and I've even had my valves adjusted.

You need a certain amount of money and then you get some sorta paper from the DMV to verify you got enough to pay in case of an accident. I remember reading it in my driver's ed stuff but that was a while ago.
