Default S2K, 108k miles - what to expect to go wrong?

I'm seriously considering an '01 S2000 with 108,000 miles on it. The price seems fair, I have an idea of the things to look for when inspecting the car.

My question is, on an S2000 with that many miles (probably rode fairly hard - has intake, header, exhaust, Apexi VAFC VTech controller, Slotted rotors, Engine damper, strut bars), if I were to take the car to a dealer and say "freshen 'er up" what might the worst case scenario be? 108,000 miles, I would expect to have to spend some money on things more involved than fluid changes... especially not being stock.

Was wondering if you guys had an idea of what I should be prepared for, AND if there was a general consensus on how long the engine or clutch typically last (under normal S2K circumstances).

Check the thread on what to check. It's a comprehensive list of what to look for.

It's a pretty exhaustive list, so if you've been through it with your potential S2k and the price is "fair", you should be good to go. Congrats on finding an oldie in really good shape.

You'll be much better off going to an independent vs a dealer and either way I wouldn't recommend that approach post-purchase. You should know what if any major issues exist before buying and plan to have those addressed. If you don't know how to determine that for yourself, take the time to get a pre-purchase inspection and find out what they would recommend.

Mileage isn't really that relevant to general post-purchase maintenance on these cars. Assuming you don't have a detailed maintenance history, if it had 100k, 50k or 20k I'd say change all the fluids and the plugs and call it a day. Maybe get an alignment. Since it's an 01 you'd want to do the common failure items like retainers and oil bolts, but that's all in the thread.
