How many Miles is too much on a used S2K?
anything 2007 or older with at least 60k miles, those things will blow an engine.
on a serious note, it depends on the previous owners, how it was taken care of and if it's been modded, tc, sc, etc. Do you have any history on the car, accidents, # of owners, maintenance records, pictures, where is the car located.
but i'm sure some high mileage owners will chime in on the reliability of their rides, I have only 78k on mine, no issues other than the clutch slipping.
having said all this, definitely look to pay below 10k, and probably push for a price closer to $8k to $9k. And just as i finish writing this i decide to check KBB which quoted me $6700 for one in excellent condition with 145000 miles for zip 11106. So, basically, they're cheaper than civics....lol. $5100 buys you a civic si with 145k miles, for $1600 more you get an s2000.

I would def try to find one with half that miles or less personally. I bought mine with 65k and thought it had a lot of miles. Now has 123k on it and driving perfect but I know how it's been used and all.
If you can't afford one with less miles maybe wait till you have some more money. That's a lot of unknown miles. Should last but you never know.

the one with the least amount of miles and newest MY you can afford. clearly if the only one you can afford is an 00 w/ 145k miles, then you might need to save up more, unless you have another couple grand stashed away for registration, insurance, and maintenance.
but there's really no answer to your question. someone bought one w/ 60k miles that stopped working 3 days later so like everyone said it depends how it was maintained

Thank you all who has responded so far.
Here is a little more info on the car. It was driven the first 8 years by the same owner and dealer maintained, with all the proper paper work. The second owner only drove it for 2k miles in one year, and it is his second car. I don't want to go test drive the car and waste the guy's time unless I have money and affirmation to buy the car.
I do have a few extra grand for maintenance and ins. I just don't want to blow my whole budget on the car and have nothing to maintain the car if needed. The seller is willing to go as low as $7000 for the car.

105k on my S and it's running perfectly. 186k on my Prelude and it's also running perfectly. As long as it's been maintained and all of the little problems got fixed right away, no big problems should come up.
It sounds like you already know the car's history, it sounds like a good car. Just do whatever research you can to make sure the history you heard is true.
