Co worker and i decide to have a friendly race. He's sporting a 1995 Porsche 986 with tiptronic. Since his is a "semi automatic" as he calls it, we are going to race from 40mph.

Now i know porsche is a respectable brand so i want to know if i even have a chance?

P.S. He claimes to have 260hp after he added a chip.

I don't condone street racing, but having said that.............

Early Boxsters had 201 HP, so that chip must have a supercharger attached to it to boost the power so much <insert disbelief here>
The Tiptronics were a bit slower than the standard 5-speeds, so pitting a stock S2000 from a roll at 40 (with you in 2nd gear = perfect ;-) against even a lightly modded 986 is gonna result in you showing him yer taillights

While a "986" is indeed a Boxster, they were not sold until '97. I think he means a 968, the successor to the 944.

Stock, they're 3086 lbs and produce 236 hp from their 3.0 liter inline-4. I suppose 260hp from a chip is possible... <shrug>

My guess is that the race would be close, with the S2000 having the advantage.

 

I say after you beat him, take him to a dyno and show him how little his chip really adds...
