I bought my '04 in October last year;

* I did the first oil change at 1550 miles (no oil usage at all, was still at top X)
* I did the second oil change at 4300 miles (no oil usage at all, was still at top X)
* I did the third oil change this weekend at 7300 miles (no oil usage at all, was still at top X)

I'm using regular Honda (Mobil) dino oil. I do not plan on going to synthetic oil later, but will continue to change the oil around 3k miles for the rest of the time I own the car. I drive moderately with some vtec. Most of the time the engine is living between 3-4 thousand rpm.

The car has not used any oil that I can detect. Conclusion at this point is that it will not in the future.

Good luck to you.

Remember, it says this only has to be done for the FIRST oil change. There is SPEICAL "break-in" oil in there that should stay in longer than any other oil change.

Honda printed this for a reason. My dealer has it posted on their wall, and I followed the same thing when I first got my car. Better safe than sorry later.
There is nothing special about the break in oil except for it having a heavy dose of molybdenum.

IMO About 95% of owners fall under the severe category and should be changing their break in oil out long before 7,500 miles. No conventional oil should be left in an engine that long regardless of what Honda suggets and/or recommends.

I completely disagree with that statement. There are less people that fall under severe. Honda made this bulletin for a reason.
