Look, if you want a super economical car with a lot of low end torque, get a Jetta/Golf TDI. The diesel engine in that provides amazing gas mileage (50+ mpg) while having 2-3x as much low-end grunt as a hybrid engine.

Check it out. Far more torque, room, and better styling + luxury than a CR-Z, AND it gets better gas mileage.

Looks like I found the car you should REALLY be getting.

Oh, and since it's turbocharged, you can chip it and easily increase horsepower AND torque +50-60 for like $600-700. Imagine that... almost 300 lb ft of torque in your economical hypermiling car. The CR-Z just can't compare.
my thoughts EXACTLY.

which is why we have one in my household.

Lucky you, the Jetta/Golf TDI is an amazing commuter car. All of that torque in such a little car has gotta be a lot of fun.

Good choice!

[QUOTE=Disgustipated,Jun 22 2010, 06:33 PM] That doesn't mean it's a torquey car at all. You're grossly misinformed on that aspect. It's still going to feel slow. The electric motor isn't powerful enough to feel like real torque. Your S2000 has/feels more torquey.

You don't turbo a car to get better mpg, whoever said that is a moron.

You will never get better then stock MPG with a turbo'd car. If you think so you're a moron and don't respond, you know NOTHING of what you speak. Turbo's effectively increase teh air which increases the fuel. Don't tell me otherwise I'm not some stupid internet reader. Increase air, increase fuel otherwise motor go boom.

Op, unless you have to have the cr-z hybrid it makes no financial sense to do so. For a car you're going to use to drive to work, pick up the cheapest civic, fit or accord with 4cly you can find in decent shape. Then drive it into the ground.

The rest of this talk on the subject is making me stupider the more I read it and the number of stupid comments remind me of that car video joke posted here a while a go. With all the stupid recommendations of some know nothing poster.

I didnt know there was a such a thing as fake torque, I've been driving the torqueless wonder for 5 yrs now and a little less wont bother me. The CR-Z has 80% of the torque of the S, and has it at 1k rpm whereas the S has it at what? 7200!!!! Yea I should Turbo my S to get better mpg, that's totally going to meet my goals.. If I have a blast driving to work then i'm not going to be getting any better MPG, what you fail to mention is how low the MPG can drop when your turbo'd! Sure it can get better, but it stands to get much worse! Especially if it's tuned to keep the motor safe.
Maybe if your reading comprehension was a little bit higher, you'd understand that by "real" torque I meant SIGNIFICANT torque. As in 200-250+ lb/ft, if not more. Not "fake" torque.

But then again it's hard to assume someone with your obvious great mental capacity could connect the dots when it comes to semantics after reading this real gem of a comment:

You're a small-minded fool and it shows.

And if you were a little bit knowledgeable (a stretch, I know) you'd realize that the S2000 has a pretty flat torque curve, so it stays consistent throughout the powerband from 2500 RPM to around 8000 RPM.

But go ahead thinking you'll save money with a CR-Z and that it's going to be so much easier to drive thanks to "electric motor torque"

Lol @ rob2

If the setup is right a turbo can significantly increase MPG. I have built several turbo civics that get over 40 mpg on the highway. Hell the last turbo s2k I tuned gets 30.

So all the people driving lightly on the highway + getting great MPG and all of the auto manufacturers that turbocharge small engines for power + fuel efficiency (a trend which has regained popularity) are morons and know not of what they speak?

Of course, you've made it all clear to me! Who was I to even dare speak of turbocharging with such wise and excessively intellects lurking in this very thread?

**** it, let's just all go and get CR-Z's, the car of champions.

Edit: You must not be able to read very well because almost everyone in this thread has offered far smarter/more logical solutions vs getting a CR-Z, whereas you claim that we're all offering poor/unsuitable solutions to what the OP had originally said.

In other words: read the thread again, you obviously failed the first time.

You're obviously lying, more air = more fuel = TURBOCHARGERS ONLY DECREASE MILEAGE.

Rob2 said it, stop lying!
