I've owned a few cars with pop up headlights.

With all of them the hunt was always on for a way to swap them over to fixed headlights.

Looks better, less weight, less parts to break, etc.

Talk to the guys working on older Supras, Miatas, Probes, MR2's, etc. Most of them are looking for a nice, bright, fixed solution.
I agree with you, but you know the routine... you always want what you can't (or don't) have.

The F355 looked awesome with pop-up headlights. So did the 1968 Corevette. I even liked the last generation RX-7 and the MR2 turbo.

But, hey, if we're going back in time for styling 'improvements', why stop at the '70's and '80's? Tailfins would be easy to fabricate from fiberglass (they could even be carbon fiber, yo). Imagine...

I think, if you really wanted to go down the road of hiding the lights, you'd be better off making retracting covers like some of the late 60's camaros had.

It would be a lot easier to fab something like that then moving headlights.

Seems to be the way of it. I'd rather not get stuck somewhere because motors burned out or a linkage got stuck.

And, when they're really busted, you end up driving around with them stuck in the up position. Looks really silly during the day.

Why not? You should try it. Also, try the 80's window curtain thing ala the F40.

O RLY? What's gay is the '02-'05 NSX MR2-wannabe, bug-eye headlights. The NSX is a definite example of when pop-up headlights are better than fixed.

As for some of the other cars, yes, pop-ups look "off."

Keeping it Honda, you could graft in a set of pop-ups from a mid-80's Accord. Be sure to include a set of spinners and a giant CB radio antenna with a Confederate flag on the top. And a trunk spoiler made out of 2 x 4s.

Pop up stuff is always fun. I wanna a pop up convertible top that opens partially when I slam on the brakes for a parachute effect. If NHRA can do it, why not S2000's?
I want a popup passenger seat. If the passenger makes you mad, hit the button, poof....your passenger has "popped up" into the stratosphere.
