Shit, where have I been. After reading this whole thread I am definitely interested in this short shift kit. I want one bad!!! I am subscribing for future reference!!!
Richard was nice enough to send a pre-production unit up to Canada for some testing. Like others have said, you can install this shifter in about 15 minutes. Below are a few before and after pictures (sorry for the slightly blurry images - I didn't have a work light handy and my camera had trouble focusing in the dark). Before, the shifter had about a 2.75" throw measured from the fattest part of the shift knob. After, the throw is down to 2.0". You can also see that the shifter is significantly lower than stock.
That knob is a countersunk VooDoo, and it screws on just fine and all the way down. In fact, it screws on much more snugly on the Axial Flow shifter than is did on my stock shifter (there were a few times where the knob came loose on my stock shifter while driving; there's no way that's happening now).
The action of moving the shifter now does require some more effort, but feels much more solid and exact. You can feel everything when you shift, and the shifter will make a click noise when moving into a new gear. If you've ever driven a car with a B&M shifter, the experience is very similar.
Interestingly, it's much easier to throw the shifter into reverse now too. A nice side effect.
On the other hand, is it possible to get a shorter shifter? I think the shifter is way too high.
Check out the other thread. The one that says axialflow shifter installed. Or something close to that. You will see there are several combinations for how high it winds up.
