The OP mentioned that the SI doesnt get a lot of credit in this forum but i think for good reason. Its over priced and has mediocre speed and handling with average MPG's. Thats why i would never chose this car over my S2K. For a DD i guess the SI is decent but i would want something that gets way better gas mileage and not just a few more MPG;s than my S2K. Just my 2 cents
Not to start a battle here, but a base Si can be had for under $20K.
The Si has a speed limit of ~130 MPH
Handling is good in it's class. I have not had problem duelling with MINI's on track or Mazda 3's and GTI's.
But you are entitled to your opinion, the Si, like the S satisfies me.

The SI can go as high as 130mph
It can do 0-60 in less than 7 secs (the best I've seen is 6.5 secs). That means on green lights I can beat 90% of cars on the road
When I drive it normal on regular traffic I can pull easy 30 mpg
I paid $20k for my 2010 SI brand new.
How is it overpriced? Can you find me a better car than the SI that performs just as good, gets that kind of MPG for $20k?
Oh, did I mention the SI is bullet proof reliable......
But I respect your opinion. To each his own. I got what I consider the best out there today for price/fun driving it, reliability, performance, MPG
The S2k, and the SI

My current S will not go on track but I have plans to AutoX it. My plan is to eventually get a used AP1 and use it only for track/AutoX. Dont know if I'll ever get to that point of owning two S2000's.
I like both FWD & RWD. Watkins Glen (the track I've been to thus far) has quite a bit of rain and snow most times. The Si has always been fun, because its a sleeper car on track. People come up and say they never expected to see me do so well or things of that nature. Puts a smile on my face.
oh! and here's a pic from my last track day in late March/early April
The SI does get bashed here more than it should but it really is still just a Civic with upgrades. If I were purchasing a car for the specific purposes of carrying 5 people and driving in the winter, I'd want AWD and something more substantial than 200hp/130tq.

If the SI is just a **Civic** with upgrades, then the RSX is also no big deal, since the SI has the exact same engine.........
I think people just see the name
RSX = Acura ==> so it must be a great car
SI = Civic ==> It's only a Civic with upgrades, no big deal
That's how people see it. And it's wrong because both cars have the same exact engines
PS. You said you prefer an AWD with mor torque for dd? Sure, but you'd be paying a lot more than $20k

Agree, RSX=No Big Deal.
I live in LA so my S is perfect for a DD. But if I had to buy something for winter conditions and carrying passengers, I do not find fwd and 130tq acceptable, so I would expect to pay more.
If I had to choose one car I'd pick the S2000 hands down. I can live with its limitations for the fun it offers. Imo anyone who gives up on the S for DD just isn't trying hard enough.
Also, fwd sucks. If I lived somewhere where a rwd car isn't practical, I'd be in an awd car.
I honestly think it depends on your region.. if you live somewhere that the sun shines 24/7, no worries about anyone putting a hole in your soft top then i guess the S is the way to go. buuuuut. if its the opposite, then the Si would be the practical choice.
