I used to drive a 99 Prelude before I got the S2K. Currently, I have 1055 miles on my s2k. Whenever I push my car to VTEC, the surge feels similar to my Prelude. Has anyone here driven newer Preludes before they bought the S2K?? I was just wandering.......

There was just a thread babout the s2k vs the lude.

I owned a 98 SH before this. The s2ks and ludes transition are as far apart as two variable timing engines can get. The s2ks is much more pronounced and aggressive.

No offence to prelude owners but driving my gf's '00 'lude and my '01 stook, when the vtec hits, there is a WORLD of difference. It's like night and day man! Really, to me the prelude vtec just sounds different, you don't really feel anything..you don't get that head against the headrest kind of feeling..

Well i have a 98 SH as well with the S2k. And when the VTEC switchs cames in the prelude..I really feel it. This is because Peak Torque of 156ft/lbs is made right at the x-over point. The torque curve jumps almost 25 ft/lbs from when it was running on the low cam. The surge is just as pronounced to me when the cams switch for both cars. Now topend..thats a different story. The S2k has alot more of that.

you guys have a point...i used to have a '00 prelude sh before my stook. When i hit the more aggressive profile (4400) i could feel the engine coming on to the cam, at 5700 i felt a good enough rush till redline. If you never drove an s2000 you'd be satisfied with the changeover. If you have, well.......I also used to own a '94 gsr....Intake, Exhaust, Timing Advance, Magnecors, headers, Now that baby used to move.....

I used to own a JDM 94 Prelude VTEC (200ps) and now have a 2001 S2K. In my opinion the Prelude kick was more procounced and dare I say it felt better.

My S2 only has 1000 miles on the clock so there time for it to get stronger yet. The big difference was that in the prelude you really felt an adrenalin rush from 5500 to redline whereas the S2 just gets gradually faster throught the rev range, the noise on the S2 changes at 6000 but the surge is not quite the same.

I think the JDM Prelude gearbox is different from the standard UK gearbox, closer ratio's and hence a stock JDM Prelude would do 0-60 in about 6.5 secs so there wouldn't be a great deal of difference in acceleration.

I think thew gearbox in the S2 could have something to do with this, its a dream gear change but the ratio's are overtall, the car needs leaving in gear for a long time when accelerating hard. I'm never going to go 150mph so I would prefer a closer ratio and faster acceleration rather than higher top speed.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, as I said my S2 only has 1000 miles and hence were still gettting used to each other at the moment.

Cheers

Jason,

To shorten your ratios you should consider the Toda thinga minjimmy I think, top speed apparently lowered to 135mph, 0-60 is about the same as you need to do two gearchanges I think, but in gear acceleration is improved, a search should answer some queries!
