S2K, what should i do??
The hardtop is a plastic/fibreglass shell. It will not hold up the car's weight if you flip it. The car has roll bars for that. About the only thing the hardtop "might" do is shield you from that large rock or log in the ditch from taking your head off as you slide by.
If you must prove to him that these cars are safe (for you), maybe he knows something about you that we haven't been told yet.

i dont know how old you are but if this helps convince your dad. i just recently turned 18 and ive got an s2000. i probably drive crazier than i should but ive been fine. just don't hit vtec in a curve and you will be alright. oh yeah... offer to your dad to take a defensive driving course. he will think thats a great idea and you will get to learn what your car can handle.
Well, no one here knows exactly what your age is Andrew. You come across as being very young, either way. I know you don't think you're going to run the car that hard but those of us who've been where your are have a pretty good idea of how that's going to go because we've been there, done that. The difference is, most of us didn't have Daddy dropping a car with the performance capabilities of an S2000 in our lap and we still managed, in some cases, to get in plenty of trouble. I learned to drive a manual transmission in a 1967 MG Midget. It's physically about the same size as an S2000, maybe a touch smaller, has a 1.2 liter 4 cyl engine and a 4 speed transmission. It was capable of about 85 mph down hill with a tail wind and was a total blast to drive and I came "very" close to loosing it on a couple of occations. I don't "even" want to think about what might have happened if I'd been driving a car as fast as an S2k at that time in my life.
You seem like a fairly level headed person but folks here are just trying to insure that you understand the capabilities and risks involved in pushing a car like the S2000 to it's limits on the street which, sooner or later, you'll probably do. If some of us come across a bit smart arsed, please don't take it personally!
Good luck on this one & Drive Safe,
Steve R.
