Having just raced at Laguna Seca this last weekend (on my Mountain Bike
), I have to say that I gotta do it in a car.
The last mile or two of the race was on the track, and all I can say that it was tricky even on a bike only going 25 or 30 mph.
This is the place to go, and for the Significant others, there is either Monterey or Carmel within 20 minutes.
Aquarium, beaches, hang gliding, whatever you want.
It was a glorious weekend there, and I'd go again if given any excuse.
BTW, I couln't vote. Said I had voted before which I havent... but you guessed. Add me to the Laguna Seca column.

We are aware of many of the issues you raise. However, we also in contact with some of the directors of NSXCA and we know they have great success with the NSXPO. They draw approx. 150 cars per year and have a format similar to the one I am presenting. They actually do two track days. We can do that too if people are willing to pay for it.

Vegas
There are several very good roads besides the track.
April is not to warm... 83 day 62 nights
Some roads on the mountain ranges wont heat up enough in April however
There is a 13 mile, one way National Recreation area...that wraps around a valley with Mountains on 3 sides, plus lots of Parking facilities
I know another road that IS NOT on a map, some what knarly but perfect for our cars
As others have mentioned:
its Vegas... booze, sex, sin, shopping etc etc etc and for those interested... Brothles... 62 miles...45 minutes from vegas
I agree with Rick it is very Artificial in Town, but there are tons of strippers that go eat Sushi at 3 am, and they drive fast cars
I know most don't want to hear this, but for Us who enjoy racing anything at anytime.... Spring brings out all the fast nice cars especially on the good roads...just a thought

Definitely Vegas. Aside from all the other reasons presented, I'm betting that a lot of folks who want to run at the track will have very limited track experience. Laguna Seca in an S2K is not the place for squids! Its a wonderful track, but tricky and fast. Put a wheel off in the dirt and it can get ugly. Key danger areas are the braking zone before the corkscrew, fast left hander exiting the corkscrew and the braking zone at the end of the front straight.
I've never done LVMS, but from what I hear it is more friendly. I also like the idea of putting people through a half day driving school. Would make me feel a lot better about sharing the track since the event won't be moderated by an organization experienced in putting on track days (no offense intended to anyone, but its the truth).

Both Vegas and Bay area sound awesome. I voted for Vegas. Next year I'll probably be living in Hawaii, so the appeal of being able to fly in, cheap hotel, cheap eats is very appealling. But I expect to go where ever it is, I just hope someone lets me sit shotgun during the rides.
I think the S2KDays is an great idea. I can't wait until we get big enough, that we can just tell cities or tracks that we are considering them and they'll bid to try and get us to go there (a la Olympics). Maybe, wishful thinking.

don't overlook Sears Point. in many ways it's more suited to the S2000's strengths, it's less dangerous for the novice than Laguna and it's more convenient to SF. plus, it's right near Bolinas Ridge, highway 1 and the other north bay driving meccas. and (of course) it's basically IN napa (grin). finally, it will probably be cheaper than Laguna to do.
i live in the bay area and get to drive here all the time. so normally i would suggest somewhere else. but i've driven a fair amount in Vegas and i'm not overly impressed. for S2Kdays i think it should be about the driving experience (thus The Dragon) and vegas really doesn't have that. what it does have any of us can experience without S2Kdays and doesn't increase the pleasure of S2Kdays (IMHO).
as for the other suggestions made to date - i honestly can't see driving to colorado or dallas for this event given that (again) we're not talking about driving destination experience a la Laguna, The Dragon, Rt. 1 or Bolinas Ridge.
Just my $0.02 worth.
