Don't use vtec ever and engine will outlast the anciliaries and everything else in the car.
Use vtec and engine will still outlast the rest of the car as the powertrain takes more punishment.
Any way you look at it, the engine is probably the most durable part of the car.

it allows more AIR to enter the chamber by changing the cam profile, requiring more fuel, but VTEC does not increase the fueling per say.
