Man, I hate to argue with an old-schooler but...
Wrong. When things are set up and work properly, nothing should slip. Slipping is a waste of energy that could be used to propel the car.
Just thought I'd set the record straight. No flames intended.

Theoretically, you'd have a perfect motor with max torque at 1rpm (electric motor) so that revving up really didn't offer much in terms of helping acceleration. But, since most of us are running gasoline motors, the fastest times are always going to be with a slight bit of slip - it gets the car up to it's "meaty" part of the powerband without sacrificing speed through excessive spinning. Drag cars slip very little but they also have massive grip with both clutches and tires - they're built to do it. Any other street car with a relatively "typical" motor is going to want/require a little bit of slip to be at it's fastest...
So, theoretically you're right. Practically, based on most street car characteristics (especially the S2000), you're wrong.
No flame intended.

[QUOTE=JonBoy,Aug 31 2004, 02:00 PM]Actually, in order to keep the car in the fatter portions of its powerband, you will almost always require slip (at the tires).

... fast hole shot / s2000 / and safely shouldnt be included in the same sentence...
the only way your going to get a "fast" hole shot .. is dumping it .. at some high RPM's .. (8k + )
