It is unique, but its also 15 years old, underpowered, and imo overpriced.

We have 2 S2000s in our garage now, and I'm seriously contemplating selling mine for an NSX. It's just overkill, IMO.

It'll be like dating twins! Why date one that looks like the other one, when you could go for something else that has a totally different look and feel!

Then again...some of us only dream they can date twins...so haha it's up to you! You could have the hard top and the other S with the top down. Convenience =)

Except for the Cayman over the NSX. Cayman is a great car but an NSX is a unique. Unlike a later poster I would take the Cayman over the Z4M
I've always loved the Z4M coupe. But that's a personal prefrence. I do like myself a nice Cayman, though.

Yeah, that's how I feel. It doesn't matter - the car sold. I figured it would go quickly (unmolested and exceptionally clean with low mileage for its age), but it sold in just three days (he who hesitates...). We've spent so much money this year that I figured the 911 was off the table, but she asked if I still wanted the thing. I DO! It is, however, an either-or dilemma for now. After my CR has some more years and miles on it, I might be able convince her that I need to hang onto the S when I buy the Porsche.

Still, I miss the convenience of the ragtop. Removing a hardtop and leaving it at home is problematic, but I like other aspects of the hardtop. Someone mentioned having a ragtop installed in the CR (involving the removal of a cross brace) which I may consider - just hate the idea of altering the CR like that. On the other hand, it would be the best of both worlds. I think I'll look into it.

Now, I may be have you all wrong, but you don't seem like the type of guy this is going to take the CR to the track and beat on it, or even autocross it. Nothing in any of your posts says much about performance to me. With that in mind, what is so bad about putting a soft top in? Yes, you're altering the vehicle, but what's the use of having it if you can't enjoy it the way you want to? If you're not doing any kind of tracking, you're not going to miss the rear brace, and the extra weight of the top and motors (don't even have to install the motors) isn't going to be noticeable. Almost every part of the conversion is reversible.

My question to you is this: why did you even pick up the CR in the first place? Was there anything wrong with your 06? Or did you merely just want it? There is no right/wrong answer and I can't fault you for whatever reason you got it.

Maybe I'm a naive 20-something and don't understand, but a car is a car is a car. Keep it as nice and pretty as you want, maybe that's how the car is most beneficial to you. Maybe it's a status thing for you, who knows - not me. I'm the kid that will eat ramen, sleep on friends couches, not eat out, etc - just so I can have money for the next track day, next set of tires, new brake rotors and pads, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

But if you're going to drive the thing like a Chrysler Sebring Convertible or a PT Cruiser Convertible, why not just get one of those?

"But if you're going to drive the thing like a Chrysler Sebring Convertible or a PT Cruiser Convertible, why not just get one of those?"

Now that's funny!

When I was a kid, I learned to drive with a 20HP go-cart on a 1/4 mile dirt track. My first test drive in an S2000 brought back those fond memories. I was just fooling around that day, but I went home with that car - not because it was a convertible, but because of how beautifully balanced and direct that car was. I fell in love with it the first time I took it around a corner.

Over the course of the next several months, I discovered lots of little issues that I wish the car didn't have and I swear I think it had been wrecked by the previous owner. I also discovered that I rather enjoy driving with the top down. The CR I have now appeared on the lot one day and it looked, smelled and drove like a brand new car - I couldn't resist and bought it (trading in my 06 in the process). After a while, I tired of the hassle inherent in the hardtop convertible and just stopped taking it off. So, I miss the ragtop.

The standard S2000 was awesome; the CR handles even better - although a good deal of that is probably owed to the tires. I may not be out on the track, but I drive the snot out of my S2000 - in a mature and responsible manner. On/off ramps are like rides at Six Flags - just look at the outside of my driver's side tires and it's obvious that I don't drive it like a Sebring.

I've driven a 911 and I like the handling of the S2000 better. The damn 911 is properly named because it wants to kill its driver - resulting in a 911 call. Nonetheless, I want a 911 someday - wanted one for a long time. I just find the S2000 to be much more predictable when probing the limits of adhesion, which is something I enjoy doing. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but don't be surprised if I show up at a track meet in the not too distant future. I'm sure it's a blast!
