Default screwed by ups!

I bought a console cover off someone and it was packaged and sent via ups. when it arrived it was just an empty tube. It was packaged in a tube with both ends sealed. you can tell that someone cut the tape off the end instead of ripping it off. ups is telling me that they are not responsible because the package was not insured. both the sender and the ups representative at the sending location verified that the item was in the package when sent. obviously its ups's screwup. What can I do?

UPS automatically insures each package for up to $100. Anything over that is additional. Call UPS's calims dept and see what they can do. I never insure any of my items unless its worth more than $100.

it did say that the package was 2 lbs. My roomate didn't know what was supposed to be in it so when the ups guy handed it to him he just signed for it and didn't observe the other end of the package was removed.

on the other hand the seller aka lightning is a trustworthy guy and has been helpful in getting this situation taken care of.

From my experiences, UPS auto insures for up to $150.... so file a claim for the $150 and recoup what you can get. UPS is a lot easier to deal with than FedEx that has completely DESTROYED a CD Changer I ordered....

I can PROMISE you that UPS insures up to $100. I work for all mail carriers, therefore that's how I know. If you continue to have problems with UPS, PM me some info and I'll look it up for you.

I use both fedex & ups a lot and never had a problem with either. Only damaged pkg was a monitor I returned for service and honestly had not packed too well. Fedex had a check in my hand for the full insured value the next day.
