Come on guys, the seat locks are no more than 65 bucks. Even if your seats get slashed because they couldn't be stolen, at least the asshole who tried to rip you off doesn't get away with the profit from stealing them. I purchased the locks a few months ago and am so much more comfortable leaving my car outside when necessary. Don't let these guys get something for nothing.

nothing? they will have god/satan to punish them and their karma to bring them down. unless reality is as sad as it seems to be.

if they slashed, my seats, i would want new seats.

i dont really understand why people are upset. imo, the guy is lucky despite the insurance hassle since his 5 yr old car now gets brand new seats and top for free, plus he might be able to make something on top of it. i hope im that lucky one day. sorry for the trouble, dude.
well one big reason why it is still a bad thing is that if your insurance company has to pay out more than a certain dollar value on a claim it is GUARANTEED that your insurance rates will spike... and the cost of replacing the seats and top, will way more than exceed that amount....

so

he has to deal with the hassel of having this stuff taken, getting new stuff, increased insurance premiums, and the insecurity emotionally of having your car RAPED by some f**king loser.

I'm so sorry this happened to you man, I totally feel your pain. I've had something stolen out of my car every year since I learned how to drive. IT IS TEH SUXORS

I fail to understand why you would want new seats if they slashed the leather. You do understand that Honda doesn't sell complete seats, don't you? They only sell the individual parts and they have to be assembled. The leather seat covers are just some of the parts they sell you when you buy new seats.

Thanks for the ebay link. If the auction hadn't started five days ago I'd be more suspicious. My seats were rather worn, the driver-side driver-door bulge was really worn away, and the driver-side driver-door bucket rise was compressed from me getting in/out so many times. The passenger side is in much better condition. I'll be watching EBay over the next few weeks to see if they show up. There can't be too many 5-year-old red seats for sale with my butt-print in the driver's seat!

I had a friend who had some astronomy stuff stolen from his front yard, and he tracked them down once some of his stuff showed up on ebay. The problem with stealing something like this is selling it later, especially with a community like ours. Hopefully they'll be stupid and try to sell them on ebay so they can be busted.

why will your insurance go up? it wasn't your fault.

do your rates go up if you're victim of a hit and run or theft? if they do, then im wrong and that sucks. i was under the impression that rates only go up if you're responsible/at fault.

My rates shouldn't, in theory, go up (State Farm has been really good about that in the past, neither of my prior 2 claims increased my rates, including the $5500 repair on my 3-week old car back in '97). However, the lady driving me to the car rental place said that State Farm drops people after 3 claims (regardless of fault), and this is #3 for me in the last ten years. I really really like State Farm, so I hope they don't do that, and that the rumor is false.

hoof: I fixed your pics so that you arent making people click link to them - in future instead of using use [img][/img]

Hope everything works out You should watch ebay like a hawk - If that was me I'd love to bid on my own seats then find out where the thieving b@stard lives and pay him a visit.

Get the locks next time!

Thanks a bunch on the images! I tried to inline them and ran into problems with the [img][/img] system. I was pressed for time so couldn't debug what I was doing wrong.

Perhaps another option is to encourage everyone to use a security tool and etch their VIN on the bottom seat pan, hinge and rails... just enough parts to make it a real bitch to get rid of them.

Make a tech day out of it and have tons of owners get it done for free or for a couple bucks a head to pay for the dremel tool.

It'll take a while to get enough seats done to reach some sort of critical mass, but it'd be lovely to catch someone.
