Seats stolen
HOLY CRAP
I didn't know are seats were worth that much(or cost that much to replace). Sorry for what happened to you, hope everything works out for you with your ins. The scum that violated you, they will get what's coming to them in the end

I didn't know the seats were that expensive either (otherwise I'd probably have looked into locks or something before). I'd like to know about the seat locks too. Sure, a PM would work, but a post in here might be a good idea to get as many of us to get seat locks as possible so we can minimize the chance of this happening again.
I'm debating getting LoJack installed into my seats so that if they get ripped off again, the police have a nice homing beacon ... would be even better than denying them the profit from the seats ... Anyone know how much that costs?

Hoof,
Sorry for your loss... I am here in Austin. Call Continental Collision and ask for Gunner. He is a great rep and dose great work on Honda Cars (they fix MB, Accura ETC first class shop). When my 2006 Honda Civic was hit and run after owing it 5 days (picked up 1st day for sale) he fought like hell with the Hit and Run Drivers Ins to get the panels replaced vrs fixed.
My Fiancee used to live in those same green apartments. Just do not lock your car from now on. I live downtown and leave the whole thing unlocked with no issues so far other the people looking for CD or shit.

This crap makes me want to sleep next to my car at night! The police really only come for insurance purposes, there are too many jackasses out there for them to even be concerned about car seats being taken. The only real way for these "jerks" (Tom Cruise), to get caught is by communities like this letting each other know whats going on and looking out for each other(and our car seats), or finding them yourself.
Maybe, we could make a locating device to put into different parts of our car......or just leave our cars unlocked so it won't cost as much.

Insurance should not go up, as it is a comprehensive claim, which by nature is a no-fault claim.
But I sell insurance, and your rates should not go up, as this is a no-fault situation.

I'd be really surprised if your rates went up.

Only a bit of a hassle for new seats and a new top is worth it in my book.from a $ point of view you may be correct but when someone 'rapes' your car you will probably not be happy about it.
there are also a lot of factors you're not thinking about which some others have mentioned, such as:
need for a rental car which he may not have insurance for
not having the car for xx amount of days
the feeling of knowing your car was ripped off and it'll never be the same
the phone calls, paperwork, deductible, etc and general PITA when something like that happens
potential increase in premiums
paranoia of something like this happening again
searching ebay and other places for your own seats
taking ridiculous security measures to prevent ***holes like this from doing it again
i really could go on. there are a lot of intangibles you are not thinking about. hope i didn't depress the victim further here...and of course, i'm sorry for your loss.

They are already committing a crime and just realized they are getting nothing for their efforts.
Sure they can stick around and teach the owner a "lesson", but every second they stay there is increasing their chances of getting caught - for no gain.
I would rather have slashed seats, a slashed dash and a kicked in door while knowing full well those a-holes will be getting nothing for their efforts. I'll take satisfaction where I can get it.
As an afterthought, if they cut the shiat out of their hand messing up the car, Great!
