Anyone know how long they can detain you beside the road? I had to wait an hour one time for a National Park Ranger to get there and accuse me of speeding.

He called ahead and had the locals pull over the first yellow car coming off the spur. The only problem with that was the Southeastern Super Meet was going on and there were about 12 yellow S2000's in town.

At least I didn't get a ticket even though I got yelled at and I was not guilty (for once).

You have no one to blame but yourself if you take any of the advice offered in this post.

Saying No to cops when they ask to search your car does not give them any probable cause at all.

You have the right to say No.

9-10 times when you say No and they don't have enough probable cause they will not get a warrant.

If they run your plates and its clean and your license and its clean they will not get a warrant because they don't want to go through all the time that is needed to get a warrant.

The cops know when you are clean or not they just wont get a warrant and embarass themselves finding nothing.

If they want to take your car apart......

LOL you can sue the CITY because of the cop for taking apart your car and not putting shit back right and you know you can sue for a lot of other shit like your time etc.......

Ive been search 4 times. I say no all 4 times and the cop let me go,but beforehand they were using scare tactics so they can search my car telling me this and that if i don't let them search but i Say No, I aint giving up my rights im clean bitch.

Ill sue those bitches if they wanna impound the car and waste my time and there time.

Well here goes my story...
I was pulled over for "excessive acceleration" (9k in 1st gear short shifted from 2nd in to 3rd) never seen a cop about 4 blocks later a cop pulls around in front of me and flips his lights on, yells at me "get out of the car now!"
I set the parking brake and step out, and no sooner did I start to shut the door, he grabs me and pushes me up against my car handcuffs me and starts to walk me back to his car, as hes leading me back I ask "Why am I being detained" no answer from him. He sets me down in the back of his car. And starts to search my car, never once did he say anything to me about the search. So I'm sitting there like WTF!! This is total bullshit... After about 15min I get let out of car and unhand-cuffed he gives some crap about the reason he put me in cuffs was because he didn't know who I was. BULLSHIT!! He continues to say he was pacing me on the next street up... and that he was pacing me doing 50! (I started to tuck my pant legs in my shoes, cause the shit was getting deep)... Anyway he asked if I had an current insurance card of course I did... I went in my car opened the secret compartment and got it out... He said "where was it I searched the whole car" I said "apparently not".... anyway he wrote me ticket for excessive acceleration and let me go.

You are very wrong, many cops use those nazi tactics to get you to give up your 4th amendment rights, as soon as you say yes, you give up those rights. Never ever let a cop search your vehicle, even if you don't have anything to hide. When they asked you to step out of the vehicle always lock your doors.

If they really want to search your vehicle, make the bastards get a search warrant, nine times out of ten, they won't get it or they won't want to spend the time trying to get one.

NEVER GIVE UP ANY OF YOUR RIGHTS!!!!

saying no to a search is not probable cause. its being a responsible citizen.

Exactly, saying No to a search is not a probable cause. And by saying yes, you do give up your rights. I'm taking a Criminal Justice class and we're studying about these things. Next time, say no!

Alright so what if i was later arrested (and had to spend a night in jail) for evading (which was dropped) This i was actually innocent of, they arrested me, had me sitting in the blistering hot backseat with no AC running for 30 mins before they finally came and read my rights, searched, tore apart the car, then impounded it to later find out it was complete BS, the cop had been running around for 15 minutes looking for what he thought was a car evading him, and i happened to be the first yellow car he found (was parked at the time)

This i was legally and morally innocent of, and its already dropped and long gone, but im curious as to what i could have sued for, if anything? I was outside my car talking to a lady when i was jumped and put in cuffs and thrown into the back of a car before they even told me what i was being arrested for.

paraphrase =
arrested of innocent charge
car was searched / trashed after being arrested
spent night in jail
car was impounded
total of about $600 for getting car out of impound and bail
was thrown in back of cop car in cuffs for 30 minutes before i was told what i was being arrested for and read rights

They have to read you your rights before they oficially arrest you, not before they cuff you. He was released, not arrested.
