Default Secure license plate plugs

So, one of my metal things fell off inside the hole where you screw the license plate into on the front number. I ordered the 2 front plastic plugs and I'm going to the dealership to pick them up today, I believe they snap into the metal things so I was wondering what is another alternative way I can secure the plugs to the bumper without the metal piece?

I dont wanna order one for $20 wait for shipping and then have to remove the front bumper to put the metal piece on only to have it fall off later on again.

(not my images or color, images just used for reference)

Do you think some sort of adhesive will work? I want them to stay securely on there they dont weigh anything but I also dont really wanna damage the paint.

Maybe I can buy 2 tiny nuts at the hardware store and like glue them inside the bumper?

A very small dap of clear silicone will hold them on. Clean it all well first. Wipe off excess right away. A very small dap will do.

Leave bumper removal and putting that metal plate back in place for when/if you ever need to put the plate bracket back on.

Where would I apply the silicone? Inside the holes or on the backside of the plastic plug?

the metal piece is held in place with a plastic extension on the bumper. It may or may not still be there- mine fell off with age. To keep the metal piece in place for the next owner, I threaded on a stainless licence plate bolt. It did not look pretty but it was hidden behind my actual front plate (stupid Ontario rules).
In your case, I think gooping on silicone will hold the plug in place easily- I'd goop it onto the back side of the plastic plug then just push it into place.
good luck!

I can't believe it I took the front bumper off and the other damn metal bracket was still inside the bumper, i'm shocked it didn't fall out over the years. I used some guerilla glue on the brackets and put some duct tape over them so they wouldn't fall off again any time soon.
