Default Self Loosening Gas Cap?

Today my CEL came on due to a loose gas cap. I swore I tightened it down. Do they ever back themselves off? The past few times Ive gotten this light I figured I forgot, but how often can I possibly forget? I am almost certain I clicked it down last time.

It has been found that on some cars, the filler neck that the cap screws into is faulty and Honda has a TSB to correct this. It may still be a bad gas cap.

I am going to make a point of being sure I really twist it down and then if it does it again I will contact a dealership. THis should be covered under my certified warranty? (I only have had the car about 3000 miles)

i don't know if the problem lies in the gas cap or the filler neck but i had the same problem and eventually found a very easy fix. when you tighten the cap and it starts to click, what you need to do is squeeze the sides of the cap ever so slightly then continue to tighten until it clicks. for some reason the cap likes to catch at a certain area on the neck and fool you into thinking it is tight. hope this helps!

Threading of the fuel filler neck is the problem. Honda fixed this for me under TSB. Look in the TSB section of this site and call them with that info in hand.

2002s and early 2003s are the only years for this.
