Default Seller being a complete ass.

I drove three and a half hours and spent 80 bucks on gas to put down a 2,000 dollar deposit on a MINT 2001 Spa with OEM hardtop, all the documents for all it's history, OEM car cover, hard top stand, 5zigen wheels, stock ap1 wheels and even that shitty soft top cover that everyone seems to hate. He agree'd to go down to 17,850 and said if I gave a deposit of 2,000 that he'd hold the car for a week, so I went to the bank, rushed everything and I'm just waiting on the answer today or tomorrow and he emails me back after I tell him the dealership he's selling the car through is only giving me until Tuesday and he finally emails me back after 3 days telling me that he has someone paying full asking price(18,900) and that he said I can have the full week before he was offered full asking price. I think this is complete bullshit. Then he goes on in the email saying how he needs to get back to helping that customer and that I have until tomorrow at 3:00pm. He's trying to get me to back out now.

I just wanted to rant a little bit, but if I have proof he gave me a week, is he allowed to just change his mind after someone else offers? Isn't the whole point of putting a deposit to have the car held, regardless of other offers.

In Canada, this is the deal of a lifetime.

There's an
03 GPW with 12,600kms for 22,900
04 Rio with 54,000kms for 22,500
03 GPW with 70,000kms for 22,000
01 SSM with 94,000kms for 21,000
00 SSM with 60,000kms for 20,000
02 Blk with 34,000kms for 19,999

Everything else are high mileage or salvage/rebuilt.

Is this a private seller or a dealership? If it's a dealership, did you get paperwork signed, etc for the deposit? That's your only arguing point. If it's a private seller, it sounds like you're out of luck though. They'll go with whoever will give them the most money since the only paperwork is signing the title and bill of sale. Easy to swap buyers at the last minute.

Nope, this is through a dealership. The seller is selling his car through the dealership. I already signed all the paperwork, all I'm waiting for is a call from the bank then I'm bringing him a nice check and picking the car up.

if you have a signed doc stating you paid 2000 deposit with 15850 to be paid within a week, you should legally have that week to come up with the money

I don't have it written down on the document that I have a week. I have an email from the seller(not dealer) saying I have a full week if I gave a 2,000 deposit instead of 1,000. But now that someone offered him the full 18,900, he's telling me I only have until tomorrow at 3:00pm

And at 3:01pm, you should have your $2000 deposit back into your hand.

Next--have the financing completed before you make a deposit.

I get called today if I'm approved or not It was either lose the car, or give a deposit and then go to the bank ASAP.

Sounds like a scam if the seller is a private party and selling through a dealership. The dealership, even if it's a consignment type of place should be handling all of the aspects of the sale in order to make their commission. Just my .2
