'05 S2000 with just a tad over 1100 miles and I too have felt the "gear tooth" clipping experience. I've been driving shifts for decades and it ain't my technique. It feels as if the gear teeth are clicking or catching against one another. I'm not saying this is what's happening, only how it feels. When shifting fast with a lot of throttle I don't experience it, but as others have said when shifting slowly and SMOOTHLY I can feel it. As an experiment I tried double-clutching and still experienced the sensation. On the other hand I love shifting this car. It has the BEST tranny I've ever experienced. Besides, it's under warranty. And a lease.

I had shift problems with my '05 from the first day. I had bad notchiness and the lever kept jumping out of 2nd gear with decelerations... I took it back with 1500 miles. They told me that Honda has issued "a bulletin" for transmission issues recently. They overnighted 1st/2nd gear sets. I had the car back in 3 days. ...no problems since.

yup, '05 for a month and 1600 miles and i feel the same as the majority of you w/ the 3rd gear click shift. i also get some bad 3->2 or 1->2 shifts where it doesn't feel like it's completely in. thus far, i haven't had the gear pop out on me yet, but once it does, I'll make sure to take it to honda. i'm pretty paranoid about all this stuff too but due to all the posts, it seems normal.

Maybe a little better on warmup. Will watch it for awhile and hope it is a normal breakin thing. Researched the service bulletins and note that 01s and 02s had similar complaints with fixes? Will report it on first maintenance visit and see what develops. Maybe previous poster will drop a line re his report to dealer. Not a big deal but could use some reassurance.

i say try changing tranny fluid to GM Synchromesh FM....helped me on the 1->2 and 2->3 notchiness, catching, grindiness, whatever you wanna call it......

my 1->2 still is notchy when cold, but smooth as butter when warm
also, i found it helps to keep the stick in neutral for a split second on the 2->3 shift instead of just ramming it in 3rd immediately, but that's just me and my car YMMV........

also the gearbox is finicky depending on RPM....high RPM shifts are smooth as butter for me......lower RPM shifts (e.g. @ 4000RPM or less) are less smooth.....i guess i'll just have to shift at 8K

I am having the same thing as well. My car only has 250 miles on it. I do find that 2-3 is getting better the more I drive it - may be the fact that I am beginning to shift above 4K now that I've driven the car a bit more. I already scheduled an appointment at the dealer to have them take a look at it.

I just crossed 7500 miles, and have noticed the notchiness on 1st to 2nd, and sometimes on 2nd to 3rd. It does get better after warm-up. I also had my gear pop out of 1st once, just as I was starting - may not have been fully engaged, but still scared me.

reading posts on 1st to 2nd grinding leads me to believe this is common, and gets better after the car warms up. But is it correct? I'm planning on paying close attention over the next 7500 miles, and then bring it up when I take it in for service.

Does anyone know for a fact that this is a real issue, and perhaps covered by a TSB for '04's and '05's?
