shin-etsu grease a must?
Need I use this stuff? I've been using rubber protectant and all seems well. I'm wondering though, lately I've been getting some rattling along the top of the windshield when the car is slowing by the engine, and wonder if the grease is a thicker stuff and will help this. Have only noticed this with the top up by the way.
I don't really think it is necessary but it is recommended. There is a service bulletin about top latches that may better address the problem you described. It involves replacing the latches with ones from the hardtop. I'm getting it done Monday.
The TSB on the "latches" actually involves replacing the striker plates with ones from the hardtop. I think this makes for a tighter, more rattle-free seal. I had this done about two months ago and the latches no longer rattle unless I go over a really rough bump. The actual latches are not replaced.
