I've been getting the little clanking noises coming from the rear of my car and thought it was just my exhaust pipe hitting the black piece on the rear bumper...perhaps i have this problem. i'll have to stop by a dealer and have it checked out...thank god for warranties.

"wasn't abnormal amounts of metal particles in it"

This is a KEY statement. How was this determined:
1) Grease Monkey saying he couldn't see any shiny shit in the oil
2) ARP Standard Patch Test
3) Heavy Metal Particle Count

If (1) above you have a problem.
True Mechanical degradation is VERY easy to determine by Patch Test and Particle counts...not by sound or eye level examination of fluids. Particle contamination is microscopic and cannot be seen by the unaided eye. Proper technique is to pull the sample through a patch and examine it under a microscope. If there's a lot of metallics then on switches ove to heavy metal particle count (to try to see which component is failing).

Sev,

All i can say is that your discription of the differential signs are to a Tee. This is exactly what I was hearing when honda told me it was a bad wheel bearing and sent me on my mary way. Just think if the thing had locked up when i was on the freeway going 70mph...it would have been chaos. Thank god i was on a city street when mine finally said "no more".

If anyone is having these symptoms..take it to the dealer. You are going to get hell but stay in it. Hell I am. Im just waiting to hear back from honda. The more people that report this problem the more likely honda is to think " hey..something may be wrong" Because the DSM's boss who i spoke with claimed he never heard of this problem nor the engine failures which was a lie because there have been 3 of us in FL and Pnty Drpr is having the trouble now too and he makes Number 4. So please...contact you Zone office and let them know " hey..something is wrong with my diff. what is the problem ".

Honda seems to be all about saving themselves money and not worrying about the customer. The only place where i get respect is my home dealer.

Till the next Diff .

SEV,
You have an amazing talent for articulating mechanical sounds. If you're ever in Florida, look me up I think I may need you to talk to my car.
