I try to stay in each gear until 4k at most then shift. Unless the noise gets annoying, then i'll work the gears up to 6

I skip all sorts of shifts. The key is if you can do perfect or nearly perfect rev matches. If you can't, skipping gears is not a wise idea.

On the street I'll often go 1 to 2 to 4. I can't run the revs to 9-grand in 3rd without being way over the speed limit, but I still want to enjoy VTEC, so I run it hard in 1 and 2, and then mellow out into 4th. And if I should be running along in 5 or 6 and want a sudden burst, I'll go right down to 2 or 3rd.

On the track I downshift from 5 to 3 many times per lap, taking the time to go from 5 to 4 to 3 is just a waste of time.

And of course, I would never skip gears to save fuel economy, that's just wrong...

I shift anywhere between 2-4k rpms. But if you're looking for better gas mileage, it would be in that range and not accelerating hard. If you're accelerating hard through the gears then it defeats the purpose.

i will echo doug's comments. i skip shift frequently in all my other cars, but not in the S. not because i can't, i just like running through the gears...

i have always done this with all my cars. i suppose it saves some gas. my favorite is 1-3 going down a hill and starting in second on a hill going down it. just listen to the car , if it luggs or the gearbox gives you some resistance then don't do it. i also do 6-3 sometimes on off ramps. i always rev match my downshifts.

I never skip gears. I cruise at 75mph which has the engine spinning at 4000rpm.
