Skipping gears does not hurt anything. Shifting like an a$$hat is the problem- regardless if you are skipping gears!

Here's some text cut directly from my owners manual - the same chart is in the manual for both ap1's and ap2's:

Drive in the highest gear that lets the engine run and accelerate smoothly. This will give you the best fuel economy and effective emissions control. The following shift points are recommended:

Shift Up Normal Acceleration
1st to 2nd 15 mph (24 km/h)
2nd to 3rd 25 mph (40 km/h)
3rd to 4th 40 mph (64 km/h)
4th to 5th 47 mph (75 km/h)
5th to 6th 52 mph (83 km/h)

Going by those recommendations keeps the RPM's between 3-4k. So I would assume that you can run all day near 4k and get the best possible mileage. I would also assume that running below 3k will decrease mileage since it's not anywhere near the powerband where it operates most efficiently.

You skip what? Dr. Freud would have something to say about your typo. To be serious, I have found that, in many normal traffic situations, the use of a 3-5 shift, or a 4-6 shift will often occur to me. Given the close ratio spacing of the top four gears, it is not a big deal to skip one. At such times, I execute the skipped shift in a relatively slow and relaxed manner. Because of the relatively large gap in ratio between first and second gears, I would never consider it reasonable to shift 1-3 or 1-4.

With gas prices the way they are now. I'd would expect that 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gear should never seem anything below 5k rpms.

OK skip shifters, do whatever you want. If you are not going to take the word directly from Honda as to what can happen in this particular car with this particular gear box then ..... whatever. Yes, you can get away with skipping gears with the proper technique but most people are not going to do that and are going to be abusing their synchros.
