Small dilemma with a S and a r6!
I have to agree w/ most folks here on the idea of starting small. My first street bike was a Honda VTR1000 Superhawk, but that prob. wasn't the wisest move on my part. (haven't crashed on the street yet, knock on wood). From there, I graduated to faster bikes: a ZX9R, R6, and R1. Eventually, I realized that the speeds I was attaining on the street were bound to get me in trouble. On the R1, for example, I had to do stupid speeds just to make the bike feel like it was working.
In getting the SVS, I decided that it would give me the discipline I lack. It's still lots of fun, but it isn't fast enough to get me in as much trouble. It's a great beginner bike, but unlike other beginner bikes, it's fun enough to satisfy even experienced racers.
Oh yeah, don't forget to take the MSF class first!

The chances of either 1) Hurting yourself, 2) Hurting the bike, or 3) Scaring yourself completely so you give up motorcycling is hugely increased by purchasing a crotch rocket as your first bike.
Lot's of good beginner bikes out their. Buy something a year old used for $4,000, learn how to ride well, then buy whatever you want and can afford...
Since you already have a sweet car and a nice bike I would find a financial advisor, invest the $6K and watch it grow into $75K to $100K over the next 20 years. Mods are cool if you have money to burn, maybe you do, but if not, in the long run you are simply throwing your money away so others will be impressed with you for about ten minutes. I personally don't see the point? Seriously, a great driver in a stock s2k will smoke an average driver in a tricked out s2k every time. Maybe the Porsche or BMW driving school might be money better spent? Then again, I don't know you or your situation so what do I know!

Rod, I don't have a bike anymore. Sold it a long time ago.
I got a guy selling a !!MINT!! 01 red R6, Comes with a cover, Joe Rocket insulated, armored jacket and HJC helmet. All in good condition. What would be the top dollar that I should pay for it. I don't know the reserve yet, thats why. I'v been to kbb and they give you crazy numbers such as $6900 for a 01. They were of absolute no use. Link to the site

That's a sweet looking R6! One of the bad things about the R6, from a buyer's perspective, is that they're so popular that resale values are fairly high. Seems like you can get a much better deal on a comparable F4.
01 R6??? Hm... I sold my 00 R6 with 8000 miles in PERFECT condition with brand new tires for $5800 last august. Problem is spring time is coming around the corner and spring time is THE time to sell a bike. He may get upwards of $6500 or MORE for his bike in the spring. If you are in an area where winter is still going on and he has been trying to sell it for quite some time you should be able to get it in the low $6000 range. Problem is everyone that wants a 600 wants a R6 more so than other 600s.
