Snap.... Crackle..... POP!?!?!?!?
Last night I was driving home.
Weather Conditions & Driving Conditions & Misc.
Weather: Damp, 50 degrees, slight mist.
Driving: No aggressive shifting, between 50-80 MPH, driving time - 22 minutes.
Misc: 1/4 tank of gas left
When I get home, I park, stop the car, lock it and get out. I sit on the steps and have a cigarette before I go to sleep. Of course when your engine is cooling down you hear the normal crackling of the engine cooling down (from my understand there is still a little combustion going on), but during the normal "Snap, Crackle", I all of a sudden hear a POP. Almost like a backfire or bicycle tire blowing.
Is this ok? Was it just some of that left over fuel burning off?

You had a smoke, your car had a "POP"!
I'm in favour of the idea that this was normal BUT, if this IS the case, then it should repeat itself sooner or later. Do the same thing next time and listen if it happens again. There is always a small possibility that this POP was something breaking or coming really loose, if it was indeed as loud as you described (but what's loud for you may not be for anyone else). If something came loose or broke, it will not go back to it's original orientation and it will not pop again. (Not meaning to scare you.)

Thanks guys.. it was so unusual. Since I practically have had my license I will be near it while it cools down at night and never heard a pop like that. I figured it was just an extra loud cooling down piece of something or other.
XViper, I knew I would see a post from you!
