Default So Low

Probably sound like a moron, but here goes. I just did my first oil change on my baby and Ran into an interesting issue. This is my first sports car and I had a feeling that the car was going to be too low to get a floor jack under. Low and behold, that's what happened. I had to use the jack that came with the car to raise one corner up enough to get my jack enough clearance to get under that car. Just wondering if there are any tips other board members might be able to give me. I'm thinking about lowering the car a little, but shying away from the idea now due to the potential problem of not being able to work on the car without using a lift. Obviously I wish I had a lift, but don't have that luxury. So are there any hints or tips to getting around this problem?

Thanks,
Rice

Drive the car up onto ramps first and then jack it or if the ramps are big enough just use them, very safe.
Ramps shouldn't be too hard to source and if they're too expensive at the auto shop go to a boilermaker and get him to fab some up for you.

I have rhino ramps and it works like a charm and a lot easier than jacking it up. You can purchase rhino ramps at walmart. I'm not sure how difficult it will be with your car being lowered or having a front lip.

I have the same problem w/my Boxster. If you roll the car up on something (forward or backward depending on which end you are lifting.....I use a block of wood) you can get the jack under the car with the additional clearance that you have created.

Rhino ramps probably will not work if your car is lowered (they don't work on lowered Boxsters).

I roll the front tires over 2 2x4 screwed (and staggered) onto each other. 2x6's would probably be better.

I use 2x10,s and cut two pieces about 20 inches long and drive the car on top of them to give me enough room to get my jack under!
