The Solstice Invasion

I hope they do spectacularly well. I'd far prefer a proliferation of roadsters to the current SUV craze, or the 4-door attempt at a sports car idea. If GM gets the drivetrain right, they have a winner on their hands (especially with the Saturn Sky's styling). No need for some elitist, "my roadster is better than yours" sentiment here. I think it's great to see more options in the segment.

And I'll add that I was particularly impressed by the Sky's styling when I saw it at the autoshow on Saturday.

My sentiments EXACT.
Well my g/f will be graduating college this year, and as a gift her parents are gonna put a hefty down payment on a car for her. Well her parents being the "only buy GM cars type" doesn't leave many options for her. But when I told her about this she got pretty excited. She showed her parents and surprisingly they approved (they tried to talk her into a *shudder*G6). Pontiac or not, me and the g/f will have 2 roadsters in the driveway and will be able to go cruising together.
I expect when the new Miata comes out, some (if not all) magazine(s) will come out with a comparison...miata vs. sky vs. solstice. My guess the miata will come out on top. But you never know. Anyone know the power/weight ratios of the three?
I heard somewhere that Pontiac wants the solstice to compete with the Miata in SCCA solo2. I doubt it would be a contender, just based on the shear aftermarket support for the Miata.
My guess is that most people who buy the solstice are the ones that thought the miata was "gay" and couldn't afford an S2000.

If the Solstice does well and helps proliferate the roadster craze maybe Honda will give us an even better S2000 with more HP and Torque.
Maybe Honda will even do a hard boot cover for the S2000 like the Solstice. I think the double hump hard cover is the best part of the styling of the Sky/Solstice. The styling of the Solstice is good but the Sky is better.

I'm also glad GM is doing this. After they killed the f-bodies there wasn't much of anything in the GM lineup that was even remotely interesting, I guess the Vette was about it, and maybe the CTS-V if it lost a few pounds.
I'm not a big fan of the Solstice styling but I think the Sky is excellent, very aggressive looking. And if they do sell a lot the aftermarket will pick up to match. That's one thing you can't say about the S2000, the aftermarket for real racing parts is pitiful compared to the high volume Miata.

The Solstice seems to be a decent package for the price, but, I have to agree with most here that it is UGLY! Thumbs up to Saturn for making the Sky more appealing (IMO). Just have to wait and see what these things can do once they are available. It is nice to see real cars coming back and the SUV craze slowing down. I would rather get into an accident with a Soltice than a Hummer!
