That's inevitable. I bought my S from just the type of person you describe. Until someone introduces some sort of psychological or knowledge test to new car buyers, I imagine it'll continue no matter what car or price rance.
From a Car and Driver article:

"The gearbox is from Aisin, the company that supplies the superb six-speed employed in the Honda S2000."

Shave those Ponitac logos off the front and they may have something.
I have nothing against a sporty two-seater in the $20K range. If they claim to see some boost in the future to take on the Z4 and S2000, I'd prefer they do that with an NA engine. Just like BMW and Honda.
They don't expect to boost it and keep the $20K price, do they? I'd assume $5K more for a boosted version with an included suspension package and wheels -- this would not impress me as much as the Honda or BMW offerings. Considering $25K is not all that far from the $30K (or less) that an S2000 will fetch nowadays.

I hope they do spectacularly well. I'd far prefer a proliferation of roadsters to the current SUV craze, or the 4-door attempt at a sports car idea. If GM gets the drivetrain right, they have a winner on their hands (especially with the Saturn Sky's styling). No need for some elitist, "my roadster is better than yours" sentiment here. I think it's great to see more options in the segment.
Even though the Solstice and its Saturn twin are nice looking cars, the dreadful GM 4 cylinder drivetrain is enough to keep me from ever considering one. Still, I welcome the competition, and the semi-exotic looks for such a low price. I think it's really cool.
