Some Perspective
For the first time in six months I drove a different car (in this case a modded Civic SI). To say I gained a newfound appreciation for the S2K is a dramatic understatement.
I expected that the SI would feel underpowered by comparison (and it certainly did) but there were so many other shocks. I mean, the SI felt like an SUV to me! The steering was sloppy and truck like, the ride mushy and the transmission.... well suffice it to say that in general there was an incredible degree of "unconnected-ness" in that car that I've forgotten about.
On the other hand - I also realized that just because I've become used to the crappy stereo in the S2K doesn't mean it doesn't suck. And I was shocked by how easily the car went into first from second (and vice versa).
I love this car.

My g/f has a Civic and when I drove it again recently the gearbox felt like a marshmallow after driving the S2K
The Civic has been a fantastic car though. Incedibly reliable. I don't recall ever having to top up the radiator or oil since buying it new in '95. A damn fine little car.

I noticed that immediately after my S2000 test drive. At that time, I had an Eagle Talon w/ suspension mods that were a huge improvement from stock. Even with those, the Talon felt like a Lincoln compared to the stook. That's when I new I didn't currently own a real sports car.
I took this pos pick up truck to go pick up my hardtop. This truck is so old school it's ridiculous. It has no RPM guage, has 4 gears, it grinds everytime when shifting into 2nd, and the shift lever is like 2 feet long. I won't even mention the acceleration. Afterwards, I couldn't believe how awesome the S2 felt. The shifting was precise, the acceleration was amazing, and the handling was awesome. In fact, it took me awhile to get used to the tight shifting again, and I've had my S2 for 1.5 yrs now. Even when I had my teg with a short shifter and a ultra low shift knob, the S2 still made it feel like the action was too long. S2 rules.
From my Miata to this car didn't seem much of a jump at first, the S2000 felt heavy and slow (I couldn't VTEC when I first got it). The transmission felt OK, and I felt the S2000 had horrible visibility compared to the Miata due to the raised rear and the fact that I'm 5'6". Recently I got the chance to thrash a '97 Miata just like I had...OMG! The difference is black and white. The S2000 now feels like a Formula 1 car in comparrison. I wonder why the difference wasn't as pronounced in the beginning, it can't all be VTEC. Oh well, damn sure glad I drove home in the Stook and not the Miata.
