He said he thinks it has water damage but he is going to check and see.
Aren't water damage cars usually the worst of the rebuilt/salvage title cars? Depends on the extent of it I suppose.

The car seemed perfect to me, like it just came off the showroom floor. Not a scratch on it. No mildew smell. Nothing.

I would most deffinaly have a dealer check it out. At the very least a reputable mechanic. It needs to be put up on a hoist and throughly inspected top to bottom. Just to be on the safe side.

I was more concerned about the internals. Definitely have it checked out and if it turns out alright then you have a decent deal.

Don't walk......run away from that car as fast as you can. Unless you plan to make it into a full-blown track car, and can pick it up for less than half that price you should never buy any car with a branded title

The only thing that might make this car a good deal is if all the mechanicals are judged to be in top condition by a reputable mech.
Costs for repairs of any kind are not cheap and the money you seem to be saving now may not be saved at all if you should run into problems.
If you buy the car and do run into problems and have them fixed, the car will not be worth any more than your original price.
IMO, if the car gets a good report card and your willing to accept the risk, you should also plan to keep this car for several years and maintain a complete record of any work you may have done on the car during your ownership.
Problems or not, this will insure that you get a fair trade-in or re-sell price when the time come to buy something else. Good luck.

Water damage is the worst type of salvage car to buy. Keep shopping. This car will likely become a money pit as the hidden moisture in everything works its slow corrosive magic.
