Sometimes HIDs are just not worth the trouble...
Ever drive at night with your brights on, on a back road surrounded by trees?
You can see the entire tree from top to bottom, in the ditches EVERYTHING. Absolutely amazing.
Normal headlights just blow once you have tried these.
I agree about the bouncing thing, I was following my father once and he pulled over he thought I was flashing my lights to signal him for something.

I love the way the beam cuts into the trees on the side of the road when it's really dark. Especially when you hits some bumps and can see the line of light bounce. Also, have you ever noticed how easy it is to see deer on the side of the road with these things? I've spotted deer without even looking for them, in times when I wouldn't have been able to see them if I'd tried with regular lights.
I like the way that (unlike some other cars), when you turn on your brights:
It ADDS the brights to the HIDs.
Some of the older dual filament headlights just switch from low to high.
You can still make out the cutoffs from the HIDs even with the high beams on.
I try to keep the throttle smooth in pitch black conditions (with sporadic traffic) to avoid bouncing my cutoff line above their hood. Seems to work pretty well. If I accelerate and brake hard, I can see the cutoff line dancing up and down... undoubtedly appearing that I'm flashing my brights.

My girlfriend was quite amazed one night when passing past some trees with my high beams on while driving my Focus SVT. Both of my vehicles have HID's and I don't think I could go back to regular headlights. Low beams for the focus and S are about equal, it's the high beams on the Focus that seem to be brighter than the high's on the S. Maybe I should change to those PIAA bulbs too?
my gf is mad funny...whenever she drives my car she drives behind people on the highway so the headlights keep bouncing up and down from the rearview mirror of the car in front of us...its a game to see how long before they flip their rearview mirror or move lanes...its pretty mean though but i would like to think of it as revenge for all the people that blind me when they flash me thinking i have the high beams on when i really dont
But honestly, when you're reckless with a 3500 lb. vehicle capable of over 100 mph, its like being reckless with a firearm in my opinion. The kinetic energy is about the same.
I wonder if they made any adjustments for this in the redesign of the "04 headlights. When I had the "01 S2k I used to have this problem but since I've had the '04 other drivers haven't flashed their lights at me even once.
